Got a text alert from bank this morning saying my address had been changed. I didn't change it, so I called the bank to see what's going on. Not terribly reassuring reply from phone banking person - 'yes, we sent a notification, but I can't see why it was sent. Perhaps it was in error? Just keep an eye on your account'.

So the text was genuine but my address has not changed, apparently. No changes showing on their system or when I log into online banking.

Never mind that the bank apparently doesn't know why it sends its own text messages out, should I be worried about potential identity fraud? And if so, is there anything more I can do than just 'keep an eye' on things? Really not that impressed by bank response tbh.

Had exact same thing with Natwest, about 3 or 4 months back. I also rang to say I hadn't changed my address and got a similar reply.

Tks. It is some comfort to know that I am not the only one. Presume you didn't have any issues with fraud/ID theft subsequently?

Generally they seem no better or worse than other banks I have accounts with. But on this occasion I have to agree with you. V poor, esp give the skyrocketing levels of fraud. Left had doesn't seem to know what the right one is doing.

Nothing at all, I repeated myself a few times, getting them to recheck there was no fraud issues as I was worried why they'd text me telling me I'd changed my address and if I hadn't requested this, to call them asap. I found it all very bizarre but the women on the phone didn't seem phased. I've had no similar issues since and no problems with the various accounts I hold with Natwest.

I've found Natwest Fraud on the ball before this as a few months earlier I tried to transfer 16.5k for a car purchase, which was flagged and then I was quizzed, for some time, before they'd release the funds. Which some might find annoying but I felt reassured by.

Tks, Hopefully nothing to worry about then!
