Ask yourself; are you prepared for the ongoing maintenance of a hot tub?...
Daily :
Check sanitiser level & dose as required
Check pH level & dose as required
Clean water line with Waterline Cleaning Paste
Weekly :
Oxidise hot tub with Non Chlorine Shock
Add Spa Sparkle to help obtain beautifully sparkling water
Add No Foam to control foaming
If in area of high calcium hardness add No Scale to prevent scale deposits
Monthly :
Clean filter cartridge using Cartridge Cleaner
Take water sample to check water balance
Periodically :
Due to the build up of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) the hot tub will need completely draining & refilling. There are no hard and fast rules as to when this should be done but the following formulation seems to work well in practise.
Hot Tub litres divided by daily bathers divided by 12 = days between draining & refilling
Example : 1200 litres divided by 2 divided by 12 = 50 days.
My advice is that you encourage a mate/neighbour to buy one and you get the use of it without the hassles!

I can't remember who we bought ours off, but the missus will when she gets back home later. I'll let you know then, but in the meantime, the most important thing to look for is the posistion, quantity and how powerful the jets are.
In the main seats, you should have at least three jets to feel any benefit (we have a seat with just one jet and it's useless). It's also nice to have the smaller jets in a couple of seats which really needle into the muscles.
I've found the air jets do nothing other than cool the water down quicker and make nice bubbles.
I'll dig out some photo's of ours.
It does take a bit of looking after, but we just use a floating dispenser and tabs of chlorine so we only have to check it every other day. Once a week, I change the filter cartridges over and soak the spares in filter cleaner ready for next time. The water gets changed about once every other month, depends on how much you use it really, you can tell when it needs a change just by looking at the clarity of the water.
If you get one now, it'll be fantastic in the winter, nothing beats sitting in a hot tub when it's snowing. Well, I suppose sitting in a hot tub with Elle McPherson, in the snow would

Got ours from Aegean Spas. Excellent service and good back-up if anything goes wrong. Our blower pump started to trip the breaker, but they just came out and replaced the pump without any problems, despite the repair bloke having to drive from Southampton to Sunderland.
Only tub I can find that is similar to ours is this. I think they look better in the granite colours, the pearlescent colours look a bit cheap to me.
The lounger is great, but the waterfalls are a bit of a waste of time.
If you live near a showroom, I'd recommend having a wet test first, much better to find out how the jets work and what you prefer.
The other thing I should mention is that alcohol will have twice the effect if drunk in the tub, something to do with the heat and make sure you place it in a secluded corner as you will get frisky but try to stick to a no bodily fluids rule

Some friends of ours got one... and promptly sold it again for half the price. They found out they had to keep it running to keep it clean/healthy and the noise went right through their house.
If you get one, make sure you get the siting right, and check out how noisy the pumps are. It might be worth going to ebay for ones that didn't last more than a couple of weeks before the owners decided they didn't want the hassle or couldn't afford it.

Totally agree with Byff - we bought ours from Aegean at The Ideal Home Show the model we bought came in at about £4000 - it will seat 6 people, had loads of air/water jets, two pumps, lockable cover and included full installation.
The comany have been fantastic to deal with - always very helpful if you call with a daft question - the two guys who did the installation were also knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the product.
Points made above about the daily/weekly treatment are valid but they can also be done quite quickly when you are into a routine.
Mrs N and I have had ours since May and find it very relaxing after a hard day - I think many peoples perceptions of hot-tubs are either they are a bit 'footballer wives' or you are in the market for making soft-porn films!
In Canada and the States they seem to be about as normal as having a garden shed.
Anyway see if you can try one out first - and see if you can get a company that offers a decent after-sales service and back up.

There's a place called HydroPools or sumfink like that at the junction of A264 and A22 at Felbridge next to Qwik Fit.....seem to have a few in the showroom..
I've no connection with with this place I just drive past it everyday on the way to work

Valid point about having to keep it running, however, it's only the circulation pump that needs to run 24/7 and mines whisper quiet. This ensures the water is being cleaned through the filters so it's crystal clear when you want to jump in it.
The main pumps are quite loud, but not that loud that it disturbs your relaxation.
I've found that we use ours quite a lot and the original quote of 50p/day to run has worked out to be more around the £1/day, but our temperature is set at 40 degrees so it's always toasty warm.
