Chinny rec? Or another gross miscarriage of justice in that lovely place, Dubai?

It seems like the type of place where you can get 900 million years for guffing at the wrong time and place so it's probably all true.

I can't believe his pal would be that unbelievably stupid to go there with even the slightest hint of pot. I'm not sure you can even take normal vape stuff. That'll probably get you 300 million years.

"A British football coach has been jailed for 25 years in Dubai after four bottles of vape liquid containing cannabis oil were found in his car. Billy Hood from Notting Hill, west London, was arrested on 31 January, shortly after moving to the country."

This seems harsh, even for Dubai. Hope the publicity can help extricate him.

Yet another delusional twit who thinks that because something is legal here you can take it abroad.

No sympathy whatsoever. Cannabis based product in a Gulf state. Idiot.

Either way a ridiculous sentence, but it is Dubai and if your going to work there best to stick to the rules.

Exactly. I still amazes me that anyone from anywhere remotely civilised actually wants to go to live in, or even just visit, such intolerant, vile, st holes like this. He may be totallt innocent but no one can really claim to be ignorant of how these places operate.

I totally agree. If I was offered a free trip I would decline.

Been 7 or 8 times now and I take medication which is outlawed there so have to get sealed Dr letter and signed prescription to take with me as advised by the Dubai Embassy in london....it took 1 email. I have had my bag searched and said drugs were in the bag along with letter and prescription no issues at all.

So when I read about these things I often assume we have not been told the whole truth. Like the chap who brushed past someone in a bar and was prosecuted for a homosexual act. Reality was he was drunk caused a scean in a bar with a emarati citizen who did try an interceed on his behalf and when the police arrived told them to fk off....from that point it went badly for the drunken twit.

Its a great place just don't break the law is it really that hard. If you dont like their workers rights or way they treat women (liberal by ME standards) don't go, don't take there tax free money or buy their VAT free goods (now 5%). Don't enjoy clean hotels, low crime rate etc.

ITs up to you but you can't moan about the law its their country don't do it.

There are certain countries that I don't like. I am not going to moan about them but I can choose never to set foot in their country, India is another I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

Intolerant yes, sthole, no.
It’s beautiful in certain areas, practically crime free, extremely hospitable… just follow the rules, and you will be welcomed.

Their views on homosexuality are difficult to rationalise though, which is hard to look past.

sthole is relative to circumstances. A place might have the finest 5 star hotels in the world, low crime, high standards etc, but a gay couple might regard it as a sthole if they can't merely kiss their partner on the beach without risk of imprisonment/flogging etc.

Obviously a lot of travellers couldn't give a toss as to how others are viewed/treated so long as they are ok, which is up to them.

Its funny, they just randomly turn up at his apartment looking for drugs. Why did they think he had drugs? Much more to the story we are not hearing.

Chap my partner knew got wasted and ran through the hotel naked. I can't think what he got but it was at least 9 months. He had a really good job and was set up over there but messed things up. I think the locals get up to mischief but don't flaunt it in the polices face.

I’m in the chinny reckon camp and reckon he was dealing.

Ultimately he will have a very harsh but short time in prison, be made to grass on everyone he can (including customers) and get a pardon and extradition like every other brit drug dealer

This 100%.

I have worked in the Gulf. Follow the laws exactly, if you see a citizen of that country break them in front of you be very careful indeed how you proceed.

Example, dry country you are offered a drink by a local.

Either option A, they are encouraging you to have a drink with them so you accept or cause offence.
Or option B, they don't like you and are trying to entrap you in breaking the law.
Or option C, they like you and are playing a joke, to see you sweat then laugh and say how silly you are because they would never drink.
Or option D, they like you and are playing a joke, to see you sweat then laugh and say how silly you are because they all drink secretly.
Or option E, They don't like you and want to see you accept so they can act offended that you didn't challenge them.

It's this kind of nonsense that means they can pay as much as they do yet I no longer work there.

The Arab in the main will not and cannot ever be your friend, they do not respect you and the law is there to protect them not you.
