Hi all,

I've been asked to recommend a warm (or hot) hatch for around £6k. Requirements are

  • 5 door preferred
  • Petrol
  • No more than 80,000
  • Standard maintenance costs
  • Non modified
My immediate thoughts are a Clio RS or Mk6 Fiesta ST. Answers on a postcard!

Cheers,
Xenoous

Pretty generic question. It really depends on requirements and what is defined as warm/hot. However that money should get you in a decent enough example of any of the below. All a decent steer, albeit some sharper that others.

Having owned a few of the below, at this budget I would personally be in the R26, especially if staying standard.

-Clio 172/182
-Clio 197 Cup
-Megane R26
-EP3 Civic Type R
-MkV Golf GTI
-Mk2 Leon Cupra
-Mk2 Focus ST
-R53 Cooper S

This. Pretty much bullet proof. Don’t be fooled by the official 0-60 time or HP rating, it is a bit quicker and feels even more so due to the low weight. Great fun at legal speeds.

Prompted me to check the weight of the swift sport. thought it would be in the 1100-1200kg region. Surprised to see it just a bawhair over 1000kg. I seem to remember Tiff saying it was a great chassis too!
