Keeping the chippies warm!
Discussion
There's a really great fish and chip shop about 20 minutes from my house (if I get a clear run). The fish 'n chips make it home warm, but not piping hot.
There are plenty of 12v coolers on the market, but are there any 12v warmers to keep the chippies up to temperature on the dash home?

wrap in towels and put in a cooler, theyre insulated boxes, we use them to keep briskets warm, don't plug one in obvs, so dont need a plug in one. use the towels to fill the air gaps. There are plenty of 12v coolers on the market, but are there any 12v warmers to keep the chippies up to temperature on the dash home?

If you have an engine then there's a hot thing under the bonnet .
People have used engines to cook their food as well .
I was at a classic trials event a few years ago watching people slither and bounce their way up muddy hillsides in Austin 7's and suchlike, when one family of competitors stopped their car in the pit area for a break, opened the bonnet, and started lifting out hot pies from a metal biscuit tin that was attached to the top of the exhaust manifold with strong metal wire.People have used engines to cook their food as well .
I thought that was genius.

This.I have a portable 12V in car fridge thingy, but it can be set to warm the food rather than cool it if required.

Yep I've got one not the same as they sell now as mine's ancient but a 14l one here or a smaller 8l oneI'd never tried the keep warm feature until I was having a take out at remote holiday rental. I was surprised that it was hotter after a significant drive than it usually was when I got home from my local take out only a 5 minute drive from home. Handy just to keep in your boot for shopping too so it's multi use. I've used it at LeMans too with a solar panel to keep drinks at room temp in the 40c heat.
At Scout camp we use “hot boxes” which are just metal tins inside polystyrene. We cook BBQ’s for hundred + & hold all at temp in these.

I don't like chips as much when they have been wrapped, they go soft.
Why not take a fold up table and chairs with you, and sit outside the chip shop like this guy does..

Though I doubt he will be around much longer.

Doesn't the batter go soggy?
It does, as do chips. Wrap them up and they'll steam. You can crisp the chips by spreading them on a baking sheet and putting them in the oven for a few minutes. Try that with fish and it will overcook, but wrapping it up and keeping it warm will do the same.Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
