Currently weighing up a new family car around the 9k mark..
These are the two that im currently drawn to, i know they are quite different one is an estate the other a saloon. Just wondered if anyone had any feedback on them ? Anything i should be avoiding etc. I just need something comfortable, a nice place to sit to ferry son around and the odd long jaunt.

Ideally i want a few quid off like everyone else would. The Seat is pretty far from me but i like the fact it seems to be specced relatively well.
The audi is closer, higher mileage obviously, less boot space i imagine but has a full audi service history which appeals.

The Leon for me.
Ran a Cupra ST 4Drive from new for 2 years, well built, comfortable, refined enough, could not really fault it other than being a bit dull
Would the Audi do anything substantially better - might have slightly squidgier plastics, might have a bit more sound deadening material but probably thats about it, its also 40bhp down on the Seat, I'd say 140bhop in an A4 is going to feel a bit weedy at times

Thats what i thought aswell .. the polo im giving to my missus has 140bhp and that is okay in a small car but in something bigger thought it might feel a bit rubbish.Ran a Cupra ST 4Drive from new for 2 years, well built, comfortable, refined enough, could not really fault it other than being a bit dull

Although my friend is a remapper so i could potentially gain that extra 40bhp back at some stage
Just the usual diesel stuff. How many miles will you be doing in them?
The DPFs don't like lots of short journeys. Check the clutches and DMF for juddery feelings when test driving as they could be on their way out at these mileages with the big diesel torque and vibration they have to deal with. Budget £600 - £1000 for a new clutch and DMF.
They are subject to a ULEZ charge - might not bother you if you don't ever venture near any big cities, but it might hit their resale value when you try to sell either of them on later. The timing belts on these are due at 133,000 miles, the DPFs should also be inspected at the same interval - this could be soon if you are doing big miles. Timing belt likely to be £400 - £700 to replace.
Good luck getting any money off from a dealer in the current market. They'll probably just tell you it's a non-negotiable fixed price.

Thanks georgeyboy, never occured to me that these would have dpf completely slipped my mind, might be an issue. Im only doing short journeys each day usually 10-15 miles. However i am up and down the m23 most weekends to visit family. Would that be a problem ?
The audi the cambelt and waterpump have been done and dealer offered to nock off a small amount with me. But now im worried about having to regenerate dpf etc maybe should be looking at petrols instead. Back to the drawing board i think.

hmm yeah, sounds a bit on the low side. An Italian tune up on the M23 once a week might see you ok, but still could be a risk. A couple of nice options there, did like the mazda but with an engine that large was hoping for a little more power, do like the golf gtd's im very much in limbo in what could fit the bill at the minute. Im very much in the german car camp but wouldnt say no to a newer hyundai, lease deals seem very poor at the minute though.
