3.2 Carrera exhaust
Discussion
Hi,
New to this part of PH having recently bought an 88 G50 3.2 Carrera Sport. Love the car but a big part of ownership experience for me is the sound the car makes and therefore I'd like to unlock a bit more as its a bit muted as standard. Key points are:
Any opinions? I am based near Bedford/Milton Keynes but I've not managed to find anyone local through ImpactBumpers who can let me hear their setup.
Thanks for any help.

- Preserve as much of the air-cooled character
- Car is only used for days out and pleasure drives so I'm not too worried about noise day to day but I'd like to steer away from anything too obnoxious
- Any power gains always welcome but not a must have
- Will likely be a DIY install so I have ruled out SSI
- Budget flexible but comfortable up to £1,300
Any opinions? I am based near Bedford/Milton Keynes but I've not managed to find anyone local through ImpactBumpers who can let me hear their setup.

Went for the stainless Dansk pre-silencer and sports exhaust on my '88 3.2. Obviously louder than the stock system in the right areas and no droning.
As a side note I also dropped in a Steve Wong ECU chip, with that and the exhaust it made a noticeable difference in throttle response and low/mid range torque.

From my internet research, it can involve a world of pain if head studs were to break (certainly beyond my ability to remedy)
I changed a heat exchanger recently with much trepidation. But it had been off recently so I got away with it. I wouldn't try it normally as breaking studs is a right royal pitaSidebp said:
Thanks for all the replies - appreciate it.
Been considering a Steve Wong chip too but concerned I might be spoiling what is a largely original, mint car ??
I know what you mean.Been considering a Steve Wong chip too but concerned I might be spoiling what is a largely original, mint car ??
Mine is a <30k miles FPSH 89 car, all original and it becomes a worry. I really would like to have 2, one to mod and thrash and one to polish.
They are fun to drive though.
Keep them wheel bearings adjusted

The Steve Wong Chip has, for many years, received very positive reviews for the subtle power and torque gains they can unlock.Been considering a Steve Wong chip too but concerned I might be spoiling what is a largely original, mint car ??
But, presumably, it’s a simple and discreet ‘plug & play’ option, that can be easily reversed at any time - so hardly impacts on originality.

I suspect the same is true for other tuners. Let's face it the technology back then is rudimentary when compared with todays' cars. From memory the upgrade took me 30mins to swap over from factory to Steve Wong.

I've many fond trips into Europe with my old girl as far south as Italy but thought the Scottish Borders should be visited at some point. Can I ask which route you took - NC250, 500 or something different?

Scotland is stunning and the roads quiet, long may it stay that way.
Can’t wait to find time to go higher up and properly explore.
