Mitsubishi Evo V
Discussion
I've owned my Evo for a year today. Thought I'd post some pictures up for anyone interested.
Torque GT imported this for me last year. I hadn't driven an Evo before and my expectations were low when it arrived.
It was a bit of a dream car for me when I was 16, but over 20 years later I thought it might disappoint, just some arches and a wing.
I couldn't have been more wrong though, I have loved every moment of driving this thing, way better than expected. The most enjoyable car to drive that I've owned, including a DC2.

Stunning car. I looked at a few before I bought a Evo 6 instead. Wish I’d never sold mine. Had a DC2 as well before the Evo which I also loved but they were such totally different cars in almost every way it didn’t seem fair to try and compare them. I love them both.
The Evo really reminds me of the DC2, something about it's balance/sharpness etc that I'm not smart enough to convey in words. Very different yes, but quite similar in a lot of ways. It was surprising to me.

Can you elaborate on how it has exceeded your expectations? I'd be very curious to know how it drives on undulating B roads and fast A roads.
I'm no Chris Harris, but I'll give it a go.I expected something closer to a Celica GT4. Heavier feeling, longer geared, bit refined, neutral to understeer kind of balance, numb-ish steering feel. Dominated by it's grip and grunt.
What I got with the Evo was surprisingly good throttle response, short gearing, sharp/quick rack with plenty of feel, notchy/mechanical gear shift, excellent brake pedal feel. It's rawer then expected, very little soundproofing. The AYC doesn't seem to be for everyone, but it works very well. It doesn't understeer, turn in is fantastic, it's an absolute beast out of a corner, the AYC shuffling torque around to get maximum traction. The grip/balance/power/controls are all so well matched, you feel you can use all of it's performance. Visibility is fantastic too, being an older car.
Ultimately, it's a car from 1998, so in terms of pace it's not in the same league as the modern stuff. But when your 'on it' it feels like nothing could be quicker because you can feel and hear everything, it's an experience. It's definitely a car for people who enjoy driving.
I would say it is more B road than A road kind of car. Though I suppose it depends where you live. It handles low grip/off camber/rutted/pot holed tarmac very well. The tighter and twistier the road is the better. But with it being low geared and fairly raw, it's a bit buzzy at higher speeds on A roads, and not very good in modern traffic.
Negatives would be the high seating position and the OEM steering wheel, which is quite large and not adjustable for reach. I fitted an after-market wheel with an extended boss to get it right, made a huge difference. It's also terrible on fuel and the turning circle is the worst I have ever experienced, and the 4G doesn't make the most exciting noises either.
I guess it lives up to its group A homologation credentials, which can only be a good thing.
