I don't want to offend anyone but I seem to see so many pics on here of people wearing watches that seem far too large for their wrists. Perhaps it's just the camera playing tricks but people seem to have watches where the lugs over shoot their wrists....and then post pics thinking they look really cool.

Sorry for slightly random post!

I think it’s mainly the effect of phone cameras. Of course there will be some that are oversized on the wearer, but I think they are relatively few.

I think that is more about where people wear their watch. Personally I wear mine before the end of the radius bone. Others wear theirs after the radius bone which to me looks like it restricts the movement of the wrist/hand.

No offence to dvs_dave but as an example that to me looks like it is worn after the radius bone thus looking like it overshoots the wrist.

Watches have been too big for some time, IMHO. For the average chap I think 40mm for a sports watch and 37mm for a dress watch are about right. Most new watches on sale are bigger however.

I think it's mostly the angle of the pictures, loose bracelets or straps as a comfort preference etc etc.

Phone camera lenses can make them seem a little large, but there are plenty of girly wrists too.

40mm is very in fashion at the moment.

Diameter seems to be the most frequently used measurement but there is so much more how a watch feels and looks. For example I have small but flat wrists, and I think lug to lug makes more of a difference on my wrist than diameter. I have 4 watches between 42 - 43.5mm and they all wear completely differently.

Oh yes, most definitely. It’s not debadged so is far too shouty.

Yes, a perfect example of how just a small angle has a large effect on the apparent relative size of the watch. First pic, small angle, second directly above. smile

No Flava Flav reference?

It all depends on the wrist. A dive watch suites mine. A dress watch will look silly.

I'd disagree personally but I'm 6ft4 with large wrists so anything under 40mm looks lost on me I find. My daily is a Omega PO which off the top of my head is 42 or 43mm and I think it's an ideal size.

I have a couple of dresses watches, nothing special but inherited or gifts which are probably 36mm at a guess and I find they look way too small on me and they stay in the box.

I said for the average chap. You clearly are more hefty.

This photo makes the watch look a lot bigger than I see it on my wrist, as I look at it now there is 10mm between the top and bottom of the watch and the outer edges of my wrist.

Not to say I don’t have some watches a lot bigger, but as long as it does overhang I’m fine with it. Also have some smaller stuff too. Design makes a massive difference especially dial verses watch width to how it looks on the wrist.

My watch, 51mm top lug to bottom lug, 47mm across including the crown, a cm of skin still visible at the top and bottom:

It is a large watch, but I think it fits well and doesn't look too big.

Sadly, for some time, a nice watch has become generally the sign of a chav which is a pity. I'm not sure I've noticed watches getting bigger.
