Converting music to USB to play on 09 V8V

I know this has been covered before, but now my hifi has been upgraded to Premium I want to be able to leave a USB stick in the car with my music on and am struggling with the file names etc.

Here’s where I am so far.

16Gb USB 2.0 stick, formatted exFAT

I have the relevant CDs saved on my Microsoft PC as highest quality.

The names are currently saved as

Contributing artist/album/name/#/title which is the standard set up on the pc

So XYZ/XYZ Greatest Hits/first track name/1/first track title

There is currently a separate folder for each artist and then sub folders for each album.

What I’m looking for is an idiots guide to saving the tracks in a format that I can then load onto the USB.

Do I do the track editing in file explorer/music or in iTunes ?

I’m no expert on this but what I do know is that the files on the USB stick need to be in MP3 format. If you have them on your PC as FLAC files and transfer them in that format, the stick will be unreadable. AdamV12V is the man to ask on this subject as he’s the expert for sure! Good luck.

I may be able to help you, Jonny.

I have music on a CD, which remains in the Premium Audio and also music on a memory stick, and that is always pluggged in to the centre cubby USB socket.
The only part which I forgo to do, was the file 'tag' information, so therefore no track details are displayed on the radio screen. A minor detail though.

I should be able to take out the memory stick tomorrow, use a PC to see what the files types are, and the file structure, then let you know.
I think the music files were simply copied from a PC on to the memory stick, so nothing complicated. I suppose the CD would have been created using the 'burn' process.

You will of course want some James Bond themes.

Hello Jonny,

I now have the USB memory stick from my car (same model year as yours and Premium Audio), plugged into a laptop PC.

The music files are in the only sub folder. They are .wav files.
Why I created a folder I don't know, but it shows that the audio system can cope with folders.

Cannot remember, but I think the music was probably originally downloaded as video files, then converted to create .wav audio files.
Think .wav has less compression than .mp3.

Hope you can make it work. At least you now know that it does work. Using the car's Mode control, one of the choices is USB.
I suppose that is displayed irrespective of a memory stick being plugged in.

While we are speaking of sounds, do you know the easy way to enhance the exhaust sound of MY2009 cars? Recently had mine done. The same tone, but a little louder and now with just a descrete hint of crackle when changing up.

Thanks Dewi - might just whack all the files over (MP3s) onto the USB and see what transpires.

My exhaust sound is perfect. CC Charger memory remote and 200 cell cats. Looking forward to going out on Halloween and unleashing the beast from hell !

Wow, that must produce quite some sound!

As you will know, our model year was shortly before the cats arrangement changed, so as standard we had just one pair of cats, containing two cell blocks each. An alteration results in 400 cell cats, which is what mine now has. A noticeable sound increase, but I was not bold enough to go further.
