Orchids.

Ive just been watching a progamme on TV about Orchids,now i knew they are one of the most beautiful flowers in the world,but inever knew there was such a thing as "Orchidmania" and i didnt know Orchid means Testicles??
It must be a great challenge to grow and nurture such a wonderful plant.

You should read The Orchid Thief. It's pretty amazing the lengths people used to go to to find new species in the olden days.

I have a friend that's pretty keen on them, but nowhere near as much as some of the more 'obsessive' types.

virtually all orchids you see have been selectively bred. the wild ones are not so spectacular.
there is an annual orchid event at kew gardens but probably the best place to see them is the orchid garden within singapore botanical gardens. they understand orchids better than anywhere else on earth.
it is said that the reason that men are so fascinated with orchids is because they resemble a certain part of the female anatomy.

I love orchids, but don't (yet) have the right place to collect them. After a few attempts, I have found the secret to keeping them though - a north facing window, so lots of light, but not direct, and benign neglect - let the pot dry out, then tip a glass of water over it. Never let them stand in water, and they seem to be very happy.

I used to own a flower shop and it was always a delight to go down the markets and see all the flowers laid out,the anthirium was a flower always considered erotic,
