Has anyone here used Car Vertical HPI check before they buy a car?

I have used this service twice recently and both times the millage has flagged up with discrepancies. Two in a row could just be bad luck but both cars seemed very straight on face value.

The discrepancies come with a drop in recorded millage when the cars were serviced or had maintenance in between MOTs.

Does anyone know how accurate this is as it has led me to pull out of one sale already and now potentially another.

I've not personally but I noticed on Salvage rebuilds who promote car vertical that one of the reports they did had a mileage discrepancy but the guy never mentioned it, I thought it strange he felt it was quite normal.

I know this is an old thread but just googled this after doing a car vertical on my own car out of curiosity and this thread came up.

I wouldn't pay any attention to the mileage checker on car vertical especially if the car has paperwork to back it up.

My car shows the mileage at about 30k less than what it actually was at every service on car vertical since I've had the car. I have the paperwork showing the correct mileage for each service and have no idea why car vertical shows it as less. It does it for every service done during my ownership.

Its not good though, the car is currently on 97k, it was last serviced at 95k and last moted at 93k. The mileage at the 95k service is showing as about 65k on car vertical, so it looks like its gone down 30k. It would look dodgy to anyone checking and would probably put me off if I was looking at a car. However the mileage is genuine, its showing 97k and certainly hasn't been tampered with. I also most certainly haven't done 34k miles since the MOT in November.

The only thing I can think of is up to 30k miles on my car's 1st owner it was serviced at a Mercedes main dealer and recorded on the MB system. On the 2nd owner between 30k and 65k it was serviced at a village garage which wasn't on the MB system. At 65k it was serviced by the used car dealer I bought it off, also not on the MB system. Since then it has been serviced at a merc independent that has been on the MB system.

As a result the I wonder if the MB service system, being unaware of the 3 services carried out elsewhere in between, may think its 75k miles service was its 45k one and has automatically filled in the mileage incorrectly and has done so ever since. It would be interesting to know if the cars you were looking at were Mercedes, as I'm wondering if this could be the issue.
