According to Sky News, and taken from Colin's Facebook page, he has died due to complications from Covid-19..

That's a shame he seemed a good bloke from what I remember.

A bit of an eye-opener that he was 85 too as for some reason I just didn't expect that.

Yes that was a huge blemish on what otherwise was a very principled career. I can't understand why he did that.

Anyway, RIP to Colin Powell.

Honourable soldier turns politician. And the usual happens. All in all though, I always looked on him as a decent man.

I'm afraid anyone misleading people about something as serious as war can never really be regarded as "decent", nor the act of doing that as a "blemish".

I was also surprised at him being 84....just shows how quickly time flies.

I was just listening to his obituary on Radio 4, quite a remarkable man, to be fare I thought he died years ago, I also didn't realise he was a man 'of colour' I thought he was just tanned.

Given his nationality I think you'll find he was a man "of color".

Nobody is 100% perfect. On balance, and especially as a soldier, his character was exemplary. Once you enter the world of politics, too many people have to make compromises and often do things that go against their better judgement.

That was Trump.

He was a remarkable man, this is taken from a Piers Morgan tweet -

General Colin Powell once showed me his personal ‘life rules’ chart that he took everywhere.
It included:
‘Get mad, then get over it. Share credit.
Remain calm.
Be kind.
Have a vision.
Be demanding.’

He was just a cache of kitten pictures away from cornering the market in memes.

The man who provided false intelligence to justify the Iraq invasion. Millions of lives destroyed. All on his hands.

“Nobody is perfect “. “A decent bloke”. Ffs I’ve heard it all.

To be fair once his hair turned grey/white it was an easy mistake to make. He was clearly of mixed race.

What a load of balls. His mistake was going along with the NeoCons (Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Bolton) They were the ones who wanted war at all costs.

When a very important politician makes a mistake, it's often a big one. I expect you would consider Winston Churchill as a bit of a loser too.

It does especially coupled with multiple myeloma, Parkinson's and old age

My grandad died of multiple myeloma he was a healthy 81 long before covid
