Round 17 and a return to the United States Grand Prix after the cancelled race of 2020. Mercedes generally seems to have the upper hand since Silverstone, so it will be interesting to see if the return to work of Adrian Newey will improve RB’s speed. Seems unlikely.

Timings are all quite UK friendly, Friday to Sunday evenings but this does mess up the usual Channel 4 coverage- see below.

Date(s): Friday 22 October to Sunday 24 October 2021.

UK Broadcast Timings (and local time)

All sessions are live on Sky F1. Qualifying and the race shown as highlights on Channel 4.

Live timing for all sessions available here:

https://www.formula1.com/en/f1-live.html

Lap times, PU component use, technical reports and Stewards' decisions for the weekend will appear here:

https://www.fia.com/events/fia-formula-one-world-c...

Weather forecast:

https://www.myweather2.com/Motor-Racing/United-Sta...

Tyre options:

Teams have two hard, three mediums and eight soft sets available per driver for each weekend.

Traditionally a strong track for Lewis, just don't spoil it by getting the drivers to run out of a door waving at the crowds whilst having their names badly pronounced tongue out

Indeed, not Liberty's best idea.

Hard to predict this race I'd say. It's quite a twisty track so I'm more towards Red Bull, and Lewis is making his fair share of mistakes this year. So I'll go for a Max win, to extend his championship lead (fingers crossed)

Yaay, the new race thread is here!

Looking forward to this one. We've had more rainy races this year than I can remember ever having before, I think this will (hopefully) be the first chance to really see if Red Bull or Mercedes have the upper hand going into the final few races. Zandvoort suggested Red Bull had it and the rest have been soggy (or missing a battle between the primary protaganists) since the Red Bull dominance in Austria.

The circuit is in a shocking state - expect most/all drivers to find different lines from normal to avoid some of the more extreme bumps that have developed since last time F1 visited in 2019..

That added unknown further makes predicting whether it will be an RB or Merc friendly circuit difficult. I'm happy to enter in to this one open minded and curious as to just how difficult the state of the circuit will be for the cars and drivers.

Can't help but feel it'll be a Merc track. Since the rear tyre change the Merc has seemed much faster, or the RB slower anyway, and Lewis has a good record here, for what that's worth (possibly not much I suppose)

Looking forward to finding out either way, looks like I'll be watching Sunday's race in the pub then as I'm not going to stay up until midnight to watch Ch4 highlights frown

Apparently the two wheel boys have said they won’t be coming back next year if the track surface isn’t sorted, bumps etc making it dangerous for bikes… doesn’t bode well for four wheels either if the circuit is unpredictable…

Apparently they are doing some work on the back straight to smooth the worst of the bumps. I don't think it will affect F1 on four wheels as much as it does on two wheels anyway.

They did some work to fix it back in January too - but the riders last month didn't think anything much was improved. In anycase, off the back of a new F1 deal, big fixes are planned this winter.

I'm predicting Friday commentary and Saturday drivers interviews will be all about how shocking the circuit is right now .

No idea who is going to be fastest. Should be interesting. Wondering if the prancing ponies will go well.

Well she’s done a hell of a lot more racing than Pinkham, that’s for sure!

Gonna be another strong weekend for Mercedes, that may swing the title race back again

In 2000 Danica Patrick finished 2nd in the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch, behind Anthony Davidson. At breakfast in the Kentagon I sat at the next table to her and her team. Afterwards I had the pleasure of reporting to the rest of the marshals at my post that the stories circulating about her very good looks were totally justified.

Interesting that you are sure about that. I am not convinced.

There's one thing that no-one's mentioned before - the risk of the championship being decided by Covid.
If Max catches it - that's game over.

If I was him, I'd be hiding away every hour and only appearing wearing an NBC suit.

That's true. Wow that'd surely be the biggest sporting anticlimax ever and the most 2020-21 thing to have happened yet.

Is it a high risk given vaccination? I would hope not - we don’t seem to have had too many this year, just kimi?

It makes no difference to infection. So it is in play at all times.
