Hi all,

Has anyone ordered, or been using the new Michelin Cross climate 2? How have you found them so far with regards to steering feel or handling?

I'll be getting some mounted to another set of wheels to keep the original alloys safr for the winter.

No experience of the tyres and have heard good things about them but if you have another set of wheels wouldn't you have been better off mounting winter tyres on them instead of all seasons?

I did wonder that to be honest, probably would make sense to go for the winters.

Cross Climate 2s seem to perform better than some winter tyres in the snow - according to tests that include all seasons and winters - and far better in dryer/warmer conditions, so seem like a more appropriate choice for most of the UK than winters.

The o/h had them on the front of her Golf. Bloody awful tyres. Understeer was the default.

PS Tyre Reviews collates tyre test info and conducts its own assessments. It’s well worth a visit and there’s already several tests featuring the Cross Climate 2s: https://www.tyrereviews.com/

From what I’ve read, it sounds like they have the best kind of steering feel and precision you’re going to get with tyres that offer decent low temperature/snow grip.

She probably didn’t as they’re only just been put on sale.

Which tyres were on the rear?

If she had all seasons on the front and summers on the rear, you’d expect both ends of the car to have different levels of grip, causing understeer or oversteer, depending upon the temperature/weather.

Excellent all-rounder if you are not that into sporty driving.Very reassuring on a cold, dark, wet winter's night.

Shame they don't do it in more sizes.

Good to hear! They do seem to have done well in reviews, where we live, we don't tend to see much snow either.

Great site that, really informative videos as well.

They do sound just what I'm after, the GR should be quite good in colder weather, but not sure how good the PS4s would be.. And it will be nice to keep the original wheels safe from the salt.

Good to hear! The GR should be too bad in the colder weather, but it will be nice to have a bit more peace of mind.

Correct, they were the mk1 then. Not good tyres though.

I’d really doubt summers on the rear would cause understeer!

Of course they would. Rear tyres that are optimised to the conditions would provide more grip than front tyres that are not optimised to the conditions. So understeer is exactly what you’d expect in warmer conditions, with the rear of the car gripping better than the front.

If it were rear wheel drive perhaps.

I've got CrossClimate Plus on the E class, They're fine. I wouldn't put them on a sportscar, but on a family car, they're a great solution.

Agreed. Had them on mine and they were great, especially in snow and rain. Just as capable in UK snow as a full winter tyre imho.

Never suffered with understeer, oversteer or other sort of steer problem! How hard do some of you drive on public roads?

You'd not fit them to a 911 but then they aren't claiming to be sports tyres.

No - cars are designed to default to front wheel understeer as it's less dangerous for people who can't drive. Sticky tyres on the back make it worse - although you'd have to go some to be sticker than CC's.

We had the originals (all round) on a Golf for a couple of years - never gave a moments concern.

Had CC+ all round on an Ateca for the last 12mths - again absolutely fine.

Someone mentioned size availablity - I think they've dramatically expanded the size range for CC2 so worth checking if haven't already.

We found them to aquaplane in the rain and cornering on damp roads was very unpredictable. For the amount of the year that summers aren’t great, I’d rather stick with summers. That said, MPS4S on my XFR-S we’re actually great all year round. I’ll let you know how the F-Type does as I’ve ditched the stock p-zeros for MPS4S too.
