My gmail is running out of space (yeah I know, buy more storage, but I'm a tight git) and I can't see a way to remove attachments but keep the original email. I have a lot of emails with attachments so getting rid of just the attachment will help. I looked at Thunderbird but the add-on for removing attachments appears not to be working/supported any more.

Any other solutions?

BTW I am not particularly techy, I would prefer point and shoot stuff rather than delving deep into the undergrowth, Thunderbird would have been about my limit as far as tech goes.

I appreciate this completely misses the point of your post and so please ignore if you like!

I too was running out of gmail space (or rather google space, as my photos etc get backed up) and didn't want to delete anything so signed up to theri paid storage.

100gb is approx £1 a month

Same, a tiny fee for loads of photo storage, worthwhile just going ahead with it, I'll never use that amount of space, but it's handy to have.

You can always find the emails with the biggest attachments...

has:attachment larger:50MB
(start at 50mb, and decrease in 10mb increments until you've recovered enough space)

Then forward them to yourself...but remove the attachment, and finally delete the original email with attachment.

Why not create another email account & just forward all your present emails to that & then you have a empty
email account.

Are you just using gmail? If it's backing up videos from a phone it's as likely to be that taking up the storage space.

There's an app "Unattach", previously called Slimbox, which will remove the attachments from gmail, and put them somewhere safe: https://unattach.app/

The earlier version worked well, and kept me below 100% for a long time.

I've had gmail since it was invitation-only and "unlimited". After a while I had deleted all the unnecessary attachments. Most of my emails are text, so I ponied up the £15 annual for many GB of space. Annoying, but cheaper than spending time managing it.
