Guess that is what you get when you add a lot of weight to a lot of power and try and rag it around the track. The M5 is more of a super road car methinks. Mind you I'm sure it goes well on the Nurburgring.I was following one round the 'Ring on one of my rounds this week...
I started in front, lost him, then he caught up and I let him past as he was making me REALLY nervous catching then drpping back. Followed him round...ish.
I did an 8:55...and he must have done an 8:40 or so. I was told he was testing for EVO, so if you see an article on a dark red one at the ring...it WAS quick.
and so was the Driver!
(I was driving a 400bhp Griff with road slix)

I am also in total agreement, what you said about TVRs smelling of glue etc was disgusting and myself and May urge you to take the comments back. Clarksons opinion on anything car related doesn't really count as he can't even drive the things properly (unless you call full 360degree spins at every corner driving) 
He's funny when it comes to things like cupholders & stupid sat nav assistants and that's about it.
The M5 was ultimately a lot slower around track than this supercar slaying impression we were led to believe ( I honestly thought it would make the top 3) but it did look like a lot of fun, infact those tyres didn't seem to provide much grip at all.. a tad worrying was the two rear diffs exploding during testing, obviously the gear change (in max attack mode) is way too violent ?

IMO Top Gear and their flippin idea of a track is not the best way to test a cars abilities.
I reckon these cars should be represented by their own drivers round a track like silverstone, at least then we know the best they can do on good tarmac driven by their own highly skilled drivers. That should be the marker for performance IMO.
I wander how quick the Sagaris really is when driven by someone who knows the car inside out.
No disrespect to Stig, the guy would flatten most of us any day, although at least we can say we listen to real music when thrashing our beasts
