Bought off eBay loads of times but never tried selling until now. Got an old PC graphics card listed, I stated in the text description "UK bidders/buyers only". Now my top four bidders are all based in different EU countries and the top three of those have zero feedback.

I don't see any way to reject bids, what are my options here? What protection will I have via eBay if this turns out to be a scam of some sort?

Have you enabled Global Shipping Program (GSP) on your listing? If so your obbligation is to mail the item to a central eBay shipping location in the U.K and eBay deal with onward delivery to whatever country, I use it and sent an item to China last night.

The only way to really stop none uk bidders bidding is by restricting the countries in your listing settings when you set it up, simply putting U.K bidders only in the description won't work.

I don't remember seeing that GSP option at all when I listed it originally, nor did I notice any way to restrict countries at the time either.

So I take it I can't reject a bid/bidder at all? If the suspect buyer is the winning bid then I've no choice but to sell to them and hope for the best?

I can't see how to end the listing either! Maybe because it's only got a few hours left?

ETA - apparently I can't end the listing because there are bids, so I'd have to let it go to the highest bidder which is the suspect looking one anyway.

Thanks for that. The seller in question has been a member since 2017 but still has zero feedback. Is that sufficient justification for rejecting the bid and blocking them?

Just end the auction. Reason, "no longer available"

There is no penalty. They will all get a message sayign the item is no longer available and their bids cancelled. Way better doing it now.

I can't, I had a look to see if I could do that but the only way to end it is to agree to sell to the highest bidder which is what I'm suspicious of anyway.

If there are bids don't you pay the fees these days? It's easy enough to remove bids.

OP, if you had ticked the right boxes overseas bidders would not be able to bid. As said, you might have enrolled for GSP by default. If so that's good as your job is over as soon as the item lands at the UK GSP hub. (If buyer says they've not receive it eBay pay out not you)

OP. The site map at the bottom of eBay page is your friend. You'll find everything there.

OK I found the GSP settings (I'm not enrolled in that) and the countries to ship to or not ship to - these are all in my account settings, not on the auction listing. Wish I'd known that before I listed it.

So, a seller with an account for four years but zero feedback - am I right in being suspicious here?

Who knows? I've had buyers with 1000s of feedback be bad & buyers with nil be good. We all start somewhere.

Fair enough I guess, will see what happens.

When I created the listing I selected the Royal Mail 2nd Class Signed-For option, that gave a price of £4.20. I'm not enrolled in the GSP thing. If it ends up being this guy in Hungary that wins the auction then I presume there's more postage to pay? Who pays it in that instance?

I've not had a cock up like this for years, so I can't remember what I did last time. Have you tried changing your own location to a foreign one & see how the listing looks to the buyer. Or, pop up the listing & we will have a look?

Listing is here, wasn't sure if it was allowed to post our own on this forum which is why I didn't do it in my OP - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304185457495

Even if it sells and he pays, you can just use the “problem with item” and return the money.

You are probably correct. I couldn't change my country, but could see all the countries you ship too. Looks like only 1 bidder with zero feedback? (Are the top 2 the same)

What countries did it say I would ship to? It should only say UK now. Regards bidders, I got an email this afternoon after starting this thread to say a bid had been retracted, the top bidder was on £132 but retracted to their previous bid of £127, not sure what other changes happened.

I stand corrected. I've never had to end an auction so late in the day. That's what's stopping you. You can't end it without selling to the highest bidder.

My advice (sold st loads on ebay).

Let it run. Get the payment from the winner. Paypal I assume.

Check his paypal account is verified for the country/address you are posting it to. The verified bit means you are covered by paypal. If you ship to an unverified address you are not covered.

Make 100% sure the funds are in your paypal account and cleared.

Ship only to the verified address as per paypal and ebay.

Don't accept anythng else. Don't let the buyer collect, don't let him arrange shipping.

If you follow the ebay and paypal rules, you are covered and won't lose out.
