Sexism on TV in 2021?

Spotted this on Netflix recently. Just wondering if this statement would be allowed if it was expressed against women?



More generally I've noticed that the majority of "baddies" on TV are white men. I don't recall many coloured women being "baddies". Why is this? The good guys are often a plucky band of coloured / LGBTQ / disabled people.

Certainly doesn't seem like a balanced view of sex, gender and race to me.

Could it just be that it's not on your radar?

Just from recent memory, Bond villains (including the latest) are often portrayed with a disability or have ambiguous sexualities, and there's normally a female villain/femme fatale as well. The main villain in Black Panther (2018) was a black man. There's plenty of diversity in villain roles.

Seriously though, white men account for what... 15% of the worlds population? Is anyone here saying they make up 15% of TV villains? No way is it under 80%.

What percent of TV and film heroes do they make up? White people (heroic and villainous) seem pretty well represented in TV, as you'd expect. Peaky Blinders has working class white men in heroic roles, Wolf of Wall Street has savvy white men fleecing greedy people of their money, Downton Abbey has white men and women acting classy. The Big Lebowski has a white man being a slacker. All these groups are represented generally positively, or at the very least somewhat nuanced, in the media. And this is just from memory of stuff I've seen recently.
