New Vantage or this.

After reading another thread on here about these cars i must admit they do seem very special with some great attention to detail and no doubt beautifully made. what do you think?

I agree there is possibly nothing like saying shall we take the Aston, but its still quite an impressive car with no brand history unless it similar to the LFA of course.

I love the Lexus but it has to be the Aston.

Whilst brand history and perception are clearly an issue...
Lexus race the LC and its made in the same factory as the LFA was, and utilises carbon fibre tech learnt in F1.
The depth of engineering and quality, for me far outweighs the Aston.

Whilst the new one has the "dressed up Merc" issue to deal with...

Mrs Minglar has had an RX300 for several years which is just about to clock up 100,000 miles. Lexus may have a somewhat staid and boring image, à la Alan Partridge, but I can categorically say it’s been the best car we have ever owned. There is a new NX about to be launched very soon and I think it’s rather tempting to get another one. The build quality is superb, they very rarely go wrong, and the customer service experience is fantastic. I’ve always had a soft spot for the LC, and it’s a pretty rare sight in the U.K. as far as I am aware. Would I take one over a new Vantage? If it was a green F1, definitely not, but if it was the original launch version, I think perhaps I would. I’m not a frequent visitor to the Lexus Owners Club forum, but I would be happy to bet a few bob that there aren’t too many derogatory posts on there, particularly when compared to some of the vitriol I’ve read on here over the last four years concerning the new Vantage.

Likewise, A former Lexus owner that really bought into the brand, dealer network, service, quality etc. I only moved away (and now regretting it) because I wanted a car with lower emissions for company car tax reasons (read penny pinching Yorkshireman ). I will return to the brand in the future. Having had all manner of German fodder in the past and the unreliability of Jaguar products none of them can hold a candle to Lexus for the overall ownership experience, in this I not only include the drivability (if it was all about this then it would not be putting Lexus at the top of the list) but all the aforementioned points and more. I managed to cover 110k miles in three years, tyres needed changing once, brake pads once, nothing fell off, nothing went wrong, not even a blown fuse, nothing rattled despite the rear of the car needing a rebuild after an motorway shunt only 3 months into ownership.

The LC500 is a stunning car and if you go with the V8 a stunning naturally aspirated engine, not overly powerful but gorgeous nonetheless.

I have no issue with other peoples thoughts positive or not on Lexus (Toyota) or Aston martin (Mercedes) ... could carry this on to Bugatti (VW) and others yada yada ... if people cant see past that .....

I don’t see anyone cross-shopping one of these against a Vantage, other than the OP. The Vantage is more powerful and much quicker, the Lexus no doubt a technical tour de force, quite a bit cheaper new, possibly more reliable. I’m biased, obviously, but I don’t think I’d ever swap my car for one of these. If anything, with the rear seats, it’s more of a cut-price DB11.

I would agree to a point. The name Aston Martin has a cache that not many other brands can match, it conjures with the mind however, the above rule can be applied to most luxury brands these days.

Shall we take the Bugatti .... er, you mean the VW or perhaps the Skoda!!

What makes Lexus fairly unique in this field is badge snobbery doesn't exist in the same way it does for MB, BMW, Audi etc. which I find quite refreshing.

I'm not saying for a moment that I would swap my AM for a Lexus LC500 but I am saying if I had room I would have both.
