Honda to replace NSX

The NSX is dead -- long live the NSX

NSX lives again
NSX lives again
Honda has announced that the NSX will live again -- in the shape of a brand new version. It will be "an NSX for a new era" and will sport V10 power.

In production since 1990, Honda's internal plans for a successor have included the HSC concept shown at the 2003 Tokyo Motor Show. At one point, Honda even let slip that it would build the NSX successor out of the HSC by 2005, although this came to nothing.

Now Honda's president Takeo Fukui has announced plans for a new NSX that's due around 2008-09. In a recent speech outlining Honda's plans for the next three years, he said: "We are now focused on the development of a new model to succeed the NSX for a new era. We would like to debut a new super sports car equipped with a V10 engine in three to four years. Please look forward to seeing the NSX successor."

Lets hope they get rid of their two rubbish F1 drivers and get decent ones so they can put their stamp on the new NSX.

Looks a bit like the Caddy sportscar and just that too edgy for a Honda. US market in mind I guess . . .

Bland it with the HSC and'll be luvly.

V10 S5000 engine with 600 horsies?

or . . .

Guess not . . .

Interesting-ish, but who cares when it's still 3 or 4 years away? Tell me about it when I can order one.

You are joking right? I agree with you on Sato however Button has done a lot for Honda

A V10?

Why?

(it makes for a long engine rather than wide - and the noise is poo IMHO)

So about the NSX, dave; float yer boat?

But the M5 on tickover really sounds like a diesel. (JC confirmed that in yesterdays TG)
Noticed it at the Ring. The Ringtaxi made a Massey Ferguson noise, but I could resist asking if it was indeed a diesel (thank god, would have made me look really stupid ).

I like the edgy look of the white NSX shown above. Never liked the old NSX. Was a car in which I ever only saw elderly people! That's not what you want to see in a supercar.

... and if F1 is switching to V8 engines, why bother with V10 - especially in two to three years? Where would be the marketing link? Honda can do great things with much less. A 3.5L V8 that revs to 10,000 RPM sounds much more interesting than yet another V10-engined supercar, not to mention more in character with Honda (high specific output using fewer cylinders and lofty revs).

I prefered the look of the old one. The inside was rubbish though.

Agreed. Let's at least see what Honda can do with a V10 before it's 'shot down in flames', if indeed there's even cause to in the end.

Just keeping the fingers crossed it looks like the HSC, or at least the other pic.

Because the Lexus Supra will have a 500bhp V10 (if you believe the hype).

apparently its now a tweaked Lexus V8 (also 500hp). Makes sense if you think that the JGTC Supras use a 4.5 (used to be 5.3) liter V8.

If Honda do a V10 or any new engine for the new NSX, it will be interesting to see what clever technology it uses. Will it simply be a V10 vtec, or an evolution of VTEC, or some whole new take on valves and timing? A lot of other high end cars now have electonically actuated valves and infinetaly variable timing.

It is possible to balance a V10 engine almost completely - this is not possible with a V8 (hence vibration complaints from present F1 drivers). OK - a V10 engine may well have been marketing led - but it will also allow a smooth power delivery at stupid 'o clock on the rev counter - which has to be good .

I'm having one - even if it means not changing the S2000 for another four years (life is hard ).
