childs restricted account for watching youtube
Discussion
Hi all,
I've got a google account where I've linked my sons account to it (9yr old), and set it up with the parental controls for YT that I want, when I log into YT in a browser and log in with his creds it appears to work fine. Yet when I log into any YT app and log in with his cred's it add's his account but its slightly greyed out and says "no channel" under his account name and you can't select it.
I've gone round in circles, just wondered if anyone else has seen this as I just want to allow him YT with restricted access.
TIA

This is something I’ve been struggling with.
YouTube is hopeless for kids in that the YouTube kids app is not very good and doesn’t work on all devices. Once a child has seen proper yt, they don’t want the kids one anymore!
Full blown YouTube offers almost no way to control content - eg there is not a way to block channels or contributors that works.
Even if there was, the child quickly learns to just log out and use it restriction free so any restrictions are basically pointless!
There is a new supervised mode where you can create child accounts and add them to your family to manage them. Sounds great. - doesn’t f’in work on any devices yet. Chocolate teapot comes to mind.
I spent a few hours last weekend trying to make this work on a Samsung tv which spits out some irrelevant error when you try to log into yt with a supervised account.
No help or online docs cover it - I figured it out via trial and error.
I did find a blog post from the chap at google that is running the supervised YouTube team and was tempted to send him some product suggestions via LinkedIn but I had a gin and Tonic instead and gave up.
