Why can you still buy fireworks?

Not too bad here currently. Usually by this time of the year it’s like Iraq at the height of Operation Freedom. If you want to go to an organised display that’s understandable.
But why are corner shops still selling these products effectively to anyone who wants them?
Very unpleasant for those living in urban areas, when some people decide to start letting rip with what sounds like anti aircraft guns, especially after 11pm.
I’d have thought the inherent risks would have seen them withdrawn from mainstream sale by now.

Did it matter in the 80's 90's 2000's that people had their own garden fireworks?

Its sad that we live in a complain culture and expect our voice to be heard.

People used to smoke in their offices and workplaces, casual racism on prime time TV, you could drive a car without wearing a seatbelt or stand on the transmission tunnel of your dads Cortina with your head poking out of the Webasto.

Things change. Just strikes me as curious that the use of fireworks hasn’t been revised as per many other things.

Because banning fireworks would be a bit like saying that preventing a whopping act of terrorism isn’t worth celebrating.

& because firework bans have a 350ish year history of upsetting the masses

Because people still want to have their own party with fireworks and don’t see standing in a crowded field being ripped off for greasy burgers while some fireworks are let off in the distance as an acceptable substitute.

I'm a liberty'n'freedoms idealist mostly but when fireworks night means 3 months of sporadic booms over a 6 hour nightly window I do tend to sympathise with my (Aussie) wife's more regimented outlook; too many damn thickos in t' world
