Does anyone know if the new BP fast chargers are 400v,800v or 960v ?

Just buying a Taycan and trying to work out how many fast chargers there really are.

The reason being the one I am looking at doesnt have the 400v x 150 upgrade so only charges at 50kw at 400v chargers but chargers at 150kw + on 800v chargers ...... if that makes sense ?

Thanks for any advice in advance

AIUI all 150kW chargers in the U.K. are 800v+ so the option isn’t really necessary- it’s more of a thing in the continent

e: the BP ones are ABB Terra HP models which go to 920v. The Gridserve ones are HPs and the 120kW ones are the 124 which again is 920v.

That's my understanding also.

OP, you might want to get confirmation in the Porsche General section as quite a few Taycan owners over there.

Thanks, hopefully won’t need to charge out and about as have charger at home and work (140 miles away) but heard so many different versions of what is and what isn’t.

Makes it quite hard to make an informed description

Thanks

Good question and I don’t know. The MFG 150kW I assume are 150kW on 400V only based on a current.

BP 150kW have always charged at 100kW+ on my IPACE so suggests they are 400V rating.

You're probably more likely to find a 150kW charger that is only 150kW over 650ish volts, due to current limitations.

So this would charge an 800V vehicle at 150kW but might only charge a 400V one at 90kW.

The MFG ones are 150kW at 800v only, they’re 100kW-ish at 400V.

Instavolt’s 120kW chargers (the new BYD ones) are 120kW at 800v, circa 85kW at 400V.

As already mentioned above, the 150kw option is more use on the continent or if Tesla open up their supercharger network to other brands.

I added it to my Taycan to future proof it, but I'm buying and intend to keep it a while so for the few hundred is cost it seemed like a good idea. If it was £1,000 or so I probably wouldn't have bothered.

See this is where i get mega confused, in my head its pretty much linear. Power is the current of the charger x the car input voltage. if you look at the Gridserve ABB Terra that shows 120kW they are simple 150A chargers ; of course the voltage changes as the battery charges and the nominal voltage needs a voltage higher to push electrons in.

https://search.abb.com/library/Download.aspx?Docum...

So 800V ~ 120kW
400V ~ 60kW

Hence 350kW chargers are really just 500A, so 350kW is against 800V.

Everyone who uses them at motorway services sees sub 60kW and is disappointed.

The gridserve units at Mollies Diner just off M5 at Cribbs Causway I can only assume are 175A based on the speeds Igot in my IPACE.
