£60k - e-tron or better?
Discussion
Hi all,
There is a possibility of sourcing an e-tron 50 at approx £60k
Is there any other BEV that's a better option at this price (or lower)?
It will be the sole car, so would like something comfy, roomy and SUV/large to cover all requirements.
Thinking EV6 but the GT-Line S would be needed and at only £5k less, thinking the Audi is a better option.
I know range is a little low on the e-tron but we don't do long journeys (two in the last 2 years that might have been more than 200 miles) so can live with it.
Any real life experiences from e-tron owners good or bad?
Thanks.

The Tesla army will be here shortly I’m sure but I’ve had an e-Tron from Onto for the past couple of months and have been really impressed by it.
It’s not efficient in the slightest but I’m not sure why people expect a huge luxury SUV to be.
I'm curious. what impresses you the most about it now you've had it for a few months? I test drove one for a few hours when it first launched (ride and refinement seemed way better than Tesla Model X imho), and am looking to maybe get a new-ish one soon. Hi,
I had an e-Tron 55 Launch Edition for 14 months, covered 15k miles and loved it. It is a premium SUV which happens to be all electric. Audi did not set out to break the mould so some would argue they played it too safe as it doesn't make farting noises or jam on its brakes at random intervals.
It is not efficient compared to most EVs but I got 210 miles in the spring / summer and 180 miles in the winter which was more than enough. Charging curve is still one of the best out there as it can maintain 150kw for most of the 0% - 80% SOC and never fell below 50kw between 80% - 100%.
Anything specific you would like to know?

Thanks everyone, thats helpful. For those who had the e-tron - with what and why did you replace it?

Better at what?
The obvious competitor is the Merc EQC if you're after an SUV, also worth looking at the Volvo XC40 and the BMW x3 electric.
Fair question. I guess as an all-rounder, single family car. I've read reviews but other than range (Audi performs poorer), it seems to come out as more comfortable refined etc from Merc and BMW. Volvo doesn't feature much in the comparisons.

Not looking to start a drag race with a Ferrari or any car for that matter. Just want a car that does its job in comfort and is nice to drive. £60k is why I'm second/triple checking the choice.

I think rdj001 hits the nail on the head - it’s a premium SUV that just happens to be electric. The fuel type doesn’t dictate it’s very being, it looks, feels and drives like any other car just even quieter, smoother and more responsive. I’m a bit of an EV enthusiast (sad as that may be) and definitely appreciate the weird and wonderful stuff like the BMW i3 with its looks and eco-interior that tell the world how green you are but we need cars that are just normal cars too and I do think the e-Tron excels at that. Get people out of diesel Q7s and Range Rovers, clean up the school run a bit.

Really useful and good to know. We mainly use this for boring journeys around town and into London so can live with the 180 mile range. Why did you return it and was there anything you didn't like?
I'm coming out of a 2009 cayenne which I love as a gentle cruiser but powerful when needed. Comfy big seats and roomy interior. Only getting rid as diesel is making it stupid for greater London travelling.

Have a look on the Taycan thread, there are posters you go either way on the E-Tron/EQC so it seems like they're really close and it comes down to personal preference. For me Audi weren't on the list (thanks Zenith...) so wasn't an option. Not looking to start a drag race with a Ferrari or any car for that matter. Might be worth looking at the Q4. Whilst it is a smaller car exterior wise it is comparable in terms of interior space and boot size since it was designed to be a BEV ground up. Range is improved over the Etron. £60k would get you a near top of the the range one which would be close on interior quality to the Etron I think. We have a Q4 50 Quattro Vorsprung in order which was £66k with a few extras (eg towing bracket for bikes) but the lead time is very long - we ordered in September and have a May build date !

I came out of the e-Tron as wanted a change. My wife has an i3S so rather than have 2 all-electrics, I thought I would try a hybrid. An awful decision. Got a 530e XDrive which I really don't like but won't derail the thread discussing that.
Now have an i4 M50 on order and can't wait for it to arrive.

Good shout. Assumed it was smaller so ignored it but will look into that. Edited by Westlondondriver on Monday 1st November 12:04
Had a poke around the Q4 and whilst a nice car did feel a noticeable step down from the full size e-tron in a number of areas (as it should). It's certainly smaller inside and luggage wise and doesn't feel as solid.
The e-tron 50 is quite a bit down on performance, range and charging speed compared to the 55 so that needs to be considered. Our 55 Black Edition is arriving on Wednesday to replace our Model 3 so was obviously impressed.

Indeed. Usually get bored after about 12 months but the Tesla has kept my interest for the 2 years so can't knock it.
After 2 years in a car aimed at the sporty end of the EV market it'll be nice to get into something where comfort etc. is the priority. Must be getting old..
