Pinnacle 20 assistance needed

Pinnacle 20
Although i could manage the earlier Pinnacle systems ok, they were very user friendly, due to me being housebound for a few weeks i thought i would have a crack at editing a lot of my railway vids and fox vids on my pinnacle 20 ( which i have never used!!)
I dont want to do a mega Hollywood production, just cut out the crap bits!! eg the trailcam is set for 1 min runs fox arrives and buggers off after 15 secs leaving 45 sec of nothing, thats the bit i want to get rid of.
I have looked at various tutorials and they seem to be way above my addled brain cell
What i want to do is
Select clip 1 and want to shorten it, the old pinnacles were dead easy but Pinnacle 20 i cannot handle with multiple AV tracks and media voice movies and still pictures being quoted all over the place
Is there anyone who could spare a few minutes in giving me a dummies guide
eg select clip1 ( the tutorials tell me that is on the right !!!! so buggered from the start)
ILets call it A-C i would like to keep A-B and discard B-C
How do i crop these clips to get this.
I select file-New-movie and drag the clip to the lh box
All i have underneath in the RH box are three icons razor blade that says split clips N ,a dustbin to delete selected clips ,and a camera for snapshots
I guess that i have to use the razor blade icon , and the delete but in what order? every combination of that and the delete icon just deletes the whole clip and not just the mid point to end that i do not need.
it is so frustrating I just need a select this. move that, select this, type of help as it looks like another three weeks of house arrest!!!
TIA

Have you had a look at the tutorials on Youtube?

Mr Tidy
I have looked at those and they all seem to refer to pinnacle studio 20 ultimate..i have the basic studio 20 and the ultimate has two additional icons that the basis doesnt. thes are on the left of the razor blade and dusbin on the line below the clip an lok like a verier gauge withpout the slidiy bit!!
I jus want to edit out the 'dead air' i have on each clip
eg fox comes up trailcam starts fox stays for 20 sec then goes.. i have got 40 secs of nothing that i want to get rid of. and even using the split icon ( razor blade) nothing happens. I have been onto the (UN)help deck at pinnacle and i just cannot get them to tell me anything. It really is driving me nuts
Why do all the simple tasks give me grief?
The gut that does the tutorials ( chap in the flat hat) really goes thorugh it too quick for me

I've used Pinnacle in the past, from 7 onwards, but for the last five years have gone with Cyberlink Power Director. From memory, the editing methods were similar. In the hope that it'll help . . .
From what I can tell, you want to cut a section from the video and rejoin the bits remaining.
In PD I would put a cut at the start of the section I want to remove, and then another cut where it ends. I would then highlight the section and delete it. If the fog of time is not too dense, you can right click on the section to be removed, pick delete from the window offered, and you'll then be presented with options. If you overlap slightly, you'll get a crossfade. Or you can use one of the fades supplied. If there are no options, and there's a gap left, click on the right hand bit of video and move it up to the other one.
If this isn't what you want, if you could be a bit more specific. I'm quite experienced as a lay video editor.

I have Pinnacle 20 NOT 20 ultimate which all the bloody tutorials seem to refer to
To put it very simply i take a 2min trqailcam shot multiple times which is activated by foces passing the camera
The fox remains in view for perhaps 30 sec leaving me with 90 secs of dead video i wish to delete This could also apply to many clips i have of Main line steam locos so i can just keep the bits i need
All i have to do this is a 'razor blade' icon The tutorials by a chap in a flat hat called Mikel only deals with the Ultimate version which is of no use to me whatsoever as that has several more icons he uses and never mentions the one i have.
I couls use the earlier versions of Studio when it dealt with 'analogue' video tapes but i had to upgrade as it could not handle digital
There are no maunula i can download and evewn when logging onto the Studio forum i get a Freench cahp trying to flog me something. I do not want to but another pice of possibly useless programming.
There must be someone somewhere who uses pinnacle 20 and can explain to me in VERY simple language Do this, vlic
k that etc on how to use this very limited (to me) programme
OR suggest a freeware editing programme that is more user freindly than this
That is all it really is doing my head in Sorry to rant but it is really pi55ing me off

Resolve is a superb bit of software. I used 15 (I think) when trying to decide whether to opt for Power Director, the monthly paid-for version.
The UI has been criticised, but just to learn. It's not one to start with, but if you're familiar with Studio, it's not that much of a bind.
I've been asked why I went for PDirector, especially as it's about £50 annually. I could afford it, and there was a lot of user assistance. I'm not sure it was the best decision I ever made and I get the feeling I'll probably wander back to Resolve, now at 17 I think, in a year or so. One thought was that I would want to go Pro, and that's an arm and a couple of legs.
If you are going to give it a go, set aside a week to crack the UI.Lots on YouTube.

DaVinci Resolve, by Black Magic Design, is a video editing programme. There’s the full programme, used by professionals, which is a fortune, and also a free version which is stripped to basics.
UI is User Interface, a posh term for the screen that you use when editing. It’s evidently much improved. Have a look – it’s free – and if you find it’s OK, then it can replace Pinnacle. Search for DiVinci resolve free download.
There’s masses on YouTube.
As I said, I pay yearly for my video editor and I'm tempted to replace it with Resolve.
