As the thread title alludes to I want something that has a big engine, sounds good and will be fun (I currently have a 15 year old Astra which I hate). I don't plan to track the car.

So far my shortlist is:

Jaguar XFR
Jaguar XKR
Mercedes SLK55 AMG
Lexus IS-F

Anything else I have missed off the list? I also don't want to lose a tonne of money when it comes to selling it on.

Sorry forgot to add, nothing that will be prohibitively expensive to run and will break down a lot. So no E60 M5, don't want every bill to be 4 figures.

We loved our XFR.

You might struggle with the "ton of money" bit, though.

Mercedes CL63. It will be the 6.2, rather than the newer 5.5, at that price but if anything the old engine is the better sounding of the two.

Nice looking silver one on AT for £15k

if you can find an ISF for that budget, that'll be the best option.

Sound great, won't fall apart, strong resale.

B7/or early B8 RS4
Monaro
VXR8

All worth a shout.

C63 AMG - It's absolutely Bonkers, you'll love it.

If you plan on keeping it for a while, a Lexus IS-F would be the more sensible option.

Seems like the C63 is a very popular choice, I know the M156 engine is one of the greats however I am concerned about headbolt issue and also the C class interior looks cheap to me. Again I have only sat in a standard C Class years ago and I was not impressed.

Look for a CLK63 or the CL63 if you want that engine but with a better interior.

The SLK is tight for space if you're anywhere near 6ft...
I've had an S-type R, an XFR & an XKR....all lovely in their different ways, but out of the 3, I would choose an XKR, also depreciation will probably be less than an XFR...

Other options...
M3 4.0 V8
VXR8....
or Monaro...

I'm guessing you mean this one...

...sure is a lot of car for the money - I think the CL63s get forgotten about alongside the C63 & E63...and then there's the CLS....

C63 AMG get it remapped so you get full throttle & you'll never regret it, the headbolt issue only actually affeted a small number of cars but you can have preventative work carried out:

I'd say at this price point the VXR8 is a good pick as well as a good steer:

OP said nothing about maintenance obligations.

As it stands, thread has TVR written all over it.

Sorry forgot to add I don't want it to constantly break and spend a fortune on repairing it. Hence why the E60 M5 or
any Maserati is out of the question.

I ran a Chimaera 450 for 13 years. It broke ... never and only used consumables in that time. Yes, I spent a fortune on it, but that was my fault! The standard brakes are absolute pants, mind. 3 laps of Bedford and the middle pedal becomes an ornament.

I was going to suggest a TVR Cerbera...but they've shot up in value now. I remember a time when you could get a really nice one for £18k.
