Anyone tried something like this:

I don't have carplay but getting Google maps / waze on the PCM display directly would be handy.

Your profile says you are in the UK and have a 718 - so your car already has CarPlay (you have to plug it in)

Are you doing the upgrade for android auto or for the wireless CarPlay?

I would be doing this for Android auto, however as mine is one of the first 718s from 2016, I have the Nav option (before it was standard) but I do not have connect or connect plus. Plugging in an iphone via USB cable does not appear to work.

There’s always a solution nowadays. I even managed to find an 8 series screen to go in my 10 year old X1 shed.

They’ve cranked it up to Porsche price, but these things do seem to work and plug in once you’ve dismantled the car. It can be a bit of a squeeze packaging it all back with the bulk of the new kit.

Have you looked at whether you can have the existing software activated? From what I understand a lot of the 718's have the code for Android Auto (and CarPlay if it wasn't originally optioned) already in the PCM, it's just not 'turned on' as standard.

I was planning on having Android Auto installed on my incoming Cayman but ended up with an iPhone instead so didn't need to pursue it. But from my research it seems to be commonly done.

I'm not sure if this in not possible on an early 718 but it's worth a look?

I was reading about it here: https://www.718forum.com/threads/pcm4-android-auto...
