Now I’m looking at buying a car from a lady who says she bought the car in July 2019, has recently moved and cannot find the logbook so is selling without it, I’m very interested but you never know about logbook loans etc, this car is only worth £1,000.

She only has this part from the logbook.

I’m guessing this would be a red flag to a lot of people or buyers?

Do a VCheck & get her to apply for a new log book.

She wants the buyer to apply for the logbook, she wants to sell without the logbook.

Depends how cheap it is and the circumstances......

If it sounds like a scam it usually is.

I've seen a few like that on Facebook marketplace. They always say how easy it is to get a log book, but are unable to do it themselves.

Yes it’s a bit of the old “my mechanic says it will only cost £20 to fix”.

It’ll probably be fine but I wouldn’t buy a car, even a low value one, who can’t be arsed to do the most basic of tasks.

I’ve just said to her that I’ll view and pay a deposit if I want it provided I get a receipt and that I’ll collect it when she has the logbook.

Awaiting her reply.

Yep.

Don’t buy without the logbook. Not necessarily because it’s a ringer or anything, but because it’s hassle and expense you don’t need. Plus makes it difficult with taxing etc.

There are enough cheap cars around.

This is the response I got about paying a deposit and going back when she has the logbook.

Is it a £1000 Fiesta that should in reality be a £4000 Fiesta?

It's a Fiesta, there's loaaaaads for sale so unless you can 100% prove its a legitimate story I'd be running a mile.

Finally after a bit more conversation, that’s reassuring.

Take care - DVLA turnaround time is glacial. I bought a Disco Sport from a dealer in July without a V5 on the basis that the dealer would apply for the missing document.
Never again.
The V5 was issued 10 days ago...with my third name as a surname.
I now need to apply for the V5 to be amended & am facing a further 3 month wait. Not impressed because I am thinking of changing the number plate but also am planning a couple of trips to France - it's a gamble because you need a V5 in case you are stopped.
OP - if the V5 is not found, I suggest that you walk. The hassle/stress of waiting for a replacement is massive.

Just frogmarch her to the post office and get her to fill in and pay for a V62 before you buy

May be the OP should stop scraping at the bottom of the barrel and find an honestly priced car with decent history.

He doesn't seem able to do that so far and admits he has no knowledge of cars.

Actually, before you start insulting people, no I don't have much knowledge about cars, I have an automatic licence, and finding an automatic car for between £900 and £1,100 isn't that easy, and yes the ones I've looked at so far I have had a few issues with but that's not down to me.

The lady found the V5 today so I've been offered it for £1,000 with the logbook.

63k miles for an 06 plate isn't bad, I have done vehicle checks online and nothing has shown up that is negative.
