I will start with the new engine for this car. Nowt wrong with the one in the car. Its in rude health. However it is a M30B30
2986cc inline 6 producing 188hp. 0-60mph timed with tyres that loose grip when the clutch is let go at 1500 rpm is 8.2 sec Book time is 8.6sec. Fortunately there is a refurbished set of oz route 16" wheels wearing continental contact 2 tyres. There is however an M30B35 engine 3430cc in line 6. Stock power for this is 209hp.
However I have a plan.
CP capprillo are making 10.5 CR:1 pistons. Stock CR is 9:1 I have a b35 block which will be over bored to 92.5mm increasing displacement to 3468cc.
There is also a copy of the alpina cam for this engine. New rockers, rocker shafts, valve springs, valve collets, eccentrics, valve plates..... I.e a new valve train has already arrived.
The cylinder head has been prepped. Valves are straight. 47mm inlet and 38mm exhaust. The port throats have been smoothed and blended into the valve seats. The ports themselves and the combustion chamber have the shape adopted by alpina previously so no changes are needed there. It is ready made.
A whole set of other new parts have been been bought so it will be a new engine.
Alpina got 254hp out of this engine but with a couple of key mods I won't be using (1mm larger exhaust valves and 144mm conrods). That will cost me a few HP. However this car has no catalyst which will gain a few HP.
Pistons now due at the end of November. That's a delay of 6 weeks.
Flywheel is of a E12 and is 6.9kg. Its been balanced with the crankshaft.

The new pistons should be the same weight. We already have the rods.
We also have all the pulleys. The only engine parts that we don't have are the pistons. It is the only thing holding it up.
Fair enough, just curiousity getting the better of me. What's the plans for management given these were an early Bosch injection system and open loop. We also have all the pulleys. The only engine parts that we don't have are the pistons. It is the only thing holding it up.
Should make good power with the healthy bump in compression and balancing. Just had my M54B30 rebuilt in a similar mannor, just waiting on bedding in and mapping

I have a copy of an alpina b10 chip which will get it running on motronic 1.3. I suspect though this won't be perfect. Therefore unless I can find someone to map and write a new chip for it I will have to get omex or similar fitted and go for a full remap and afm delete.
Respray and interior retrim after the engine is in.
Radio engineering is doing the work.
The exhaust system currently on the car is a fritz system including manifold. So it should be quite potent when finished.
The m30b30 will have to be put into something. A series land rover with one of these would be awesome or something light like an e21.

I bought some oz route wheels recently. They have been refurbished. The conti contact 2 tyres I have have been mounted.
Intake boot after after afm has been replaced and the car feels quicker as a result.
225/55r16.
The car is quicker now. The old tyres where going hard. 0 to 60 time is down to 7.4 sec on a cold mildly damp road. So on a warm day it will be 7 secs. That mean this old engine (m30b30) could be doing more than book power. 200hp probably. Time to get it on some rollers to confirm.

Been to Clive Astwood tuning for a power run. Bear in mind the m30b30 engine has (book) 188hp @5800 rpm and 192 ft.lb @4000 rpm.
With the fritz exhaust manifold and system it makes 209hp @6000 rpm and 191 ft.lb torque @4484 rpm.
However it is running lean at various points. That needs to be corrected. Given its tuning lean with the exhaust and probably a faulty afm and still giving more than stock...
I have also booked the car in with Emerald to have there ecu fitted in Feb. If the new engine is in by then then it will.be mapped once. If it isn't it will get mapped twice. If I don't book now it will the summer before I will be able to drive it with the new engine.
