Buy a different car?
Discussion
Hey guys I currently have a 9 year old C Max 2l diesel, mainly travel 2 miles each way to and back from work, the car doesn't do long journeys, tho I do take it once a month for a 70mile round trip just to give the car a run on 60-70 MPH roads. Car does on my work route average 32 MPG and on longer run 48-50 MPG. We have hills everywhere here but the car doesn't notice them. car has below 50k miles. Car gets a full service every year and barely does 4-5k a year with me.
Duel to rising fuel prices I was thinking something more eco like a 1.2 or 1.4 petrol but haven't really found anything I can fit in being 6'6 but can fit in a Citroen C1! Just I wish windscreen was taller. All the cars I seen and fitted much better in are Kia Cee'd or a Dacia Sandaro both diesel .
I fit much better in my C Max and have plenty of room for me to sit comfortably in doing a long journey if I needed to and the dogs in the boot.
I do worry if the DPF goes due to the not so long journeys, already needed some basic work earlier in year for that.
What's your advice stick or move quickly whilst I got offered fairly decent prices to trade my car in ? Stick with diesel but smaller 1,6l D like that's in the Kia buy a petrol (haven't heard anything good about E10) or look after my car keep the up keep and hope it's a good strong Peugeot engine that will run for 200k and but possibly the last I will own non new type of engine they will force on us?

Definitely keep it. C-Maxes are good cars, the 2.0TDCi Ford/PSA engine is typically a good, reliable unit and most importantly you and the dogs fit in it comfortably! It sounds like the perfect car for you. Take it for a good thrash sometimes, keep up the long motorway run and also consider walking/cycling to work sometime to reduce the short journeys.
We had a Mk1 C-Max 2.0TDCi for 15yrs and it was a great car. I would have bought another when ours died, except a Mondeo Mk4.5 Titanium X estate cropped up (also a very good car and am very happy with it). I would happily buy a Mk2 C-Max if a 2.0TDCi Titanium X cropped up.

I generally think buying a new car to try and save a few quid on fuel is a false economy, if you just want a new car then fair enough but if just changing as you think you can save a few quid on fuel then keep what you have IMOl
Totally get that, only a very small part of me wants that.SlowV6 said:

It's probably been the most perfect car I have owned. My only problem but not a problem is it's a automatic. We had a Mk1 C-Max 2.0TDCi for 15yrs and it was a great car. Very non-PH suggestion I know, but if your commute is only two miles, could you get a bike or an ebike? Then you could keep the C-Max for longer journeys, trips with the dogs and so on but don't have to shell out for a new car.
I have thought of that and the e bikes I looked at wouldn't fit me. As for other bikes no one likes to leave their bikes at work except the nights lot who after 2 years git permission to bring them inside. Day time it's not possible. I did walk to work in the summer but with my shifts everywhere I didn't like walking back after 12-13 hour shiftZX10R NIN said:
Keep the C Max the torque is what makes the hills a breeze going to a 1.2/1.4T engine will end up being worked harder & probably won't be anymore economical in the real world.
Yea that's been in the back of my mind, was talking to someone who has a .9l Sandaro and they say they have no problems with hills l. I left the same time today and purposely stuck behind them on this hill, my car didn't know it was a hill theirs was struggling. So I'll prob keep it do do the rust spot on the catch area of the bonnet
