RIP Lionel Blair...

To those of us of a certain age, he was a team captain on "Give Us A Clue", or presenter of "Name That Tune" or even rhyming slang for flared trousers....

He was also recipient of one of THE best Gotchas....

Rest in peace, Lionel.

He always seemed like a lovely chap, always laughing & never taking himself too seriously, always watchable.
From Britain's Got the Pop Factor... and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice:
Lionel Blair:
People say you can't polish a turd. Well let me tell you, I've polished hundreds.

A sad loss.

They crossed a line and I felt that was nasty. I think he really didn't like it.

I was surprised to read in his obituary that he was married and had children - I’d always assumed that women weren’t his cup of tea.

^ He'd have been c.55yrs old when he moved, danced, and looked, and entertained - like that. Wow.

What a Star. - from an age when 'celebrity' emerged slowly only from respected / consistent talent and hard work first; yet retained an air of mystery about the person behind it.

RIP Lionel!
& now go taunt Humphrey Littleton on your own amicable terms... : D

ETA - loved the ad link above too...

Bless him.

From the days when "celebrity" meant having talent, not being someone you'd see at a bus stop.

You know what they say in showbusiness;

"The only thing worse than being talked about, it not being talked about!"

I saw him in a play years ago. He did an amazing encore, dancing with Jimmy Edwards playing a trombone, spent ages on stage after the curtain went down, a great professional.

It's lovely to read such positive statements about someone those of a certain age and above, will have seen on TV or stage.

A talented, 'proper' old-school entertainer.

Fpr the time thayt ISIHAC was running those sound charade intros that if he was offended by them ,that words would have been said. Although we are talking 20-30 years ago the Beeb still had morals instead if hidden agendas.
And the fact the Humph used to say it with such a straight face, as he did with the intros about some towns they were in.I liked the guy.

Having said that He was someone who made it the hard way and didn't take himself too seriously unlike a lot of the so called 'famous' gobstes who infest the cheap tell all rags and seem to be on a continual I've lost 3 stones AGAIN look at my flat stomach, ..flat compare to what? Mont Blanc? slimming kick. At that rate she should have completely disappeared several months ago.

RiP Lionel, he always seemed to come across as alright.
