Looking for a car for my daughter and settled on a Fiesta 1.0. After a history check it's come back as CAT N, theft recovered.
It's advertised on PH and I didn't notice any mention of insurance category and I can't see a filter for it.
Anyway has anyone experienced problems with insurance/resale/mechanicals after buying a Cat N registered car?

I wouldn't normally entertain the idea but she's set her heart on it, any advice gratefully received.

Uless it's significantly cheaper than a non Cat N if it's not look elsewhere.

Thanks. I'm torn between going to look at it anyway to get a feel for it and spending a few more weeks scouring the ads...

Trade advert should have stated, private no requirement. So if trade i would leave it.

Yes, it's a trade ad.
Spoken to them and they said yes, it's Cat N.

OK, thanks. I should step away and look elsewhere.

Depend really, me I would never buy a cat car, others have no issue. The adverts should always state if it is a cat.

I’ve just bought as I don’t have an issue with them. There’s a HPI type site that’ll do a check on the car, confirm it’s status and add a link to when/where the car was listed in the salvage auction so you can see the damage for yourself.

Resale is harder mind and I wouldn’t buy off a day trader that fixed the car themselves, or if a shoddy repair is evident from the viewing.

I'd be far less worried about a Cat N - Stolen Recovered than a straight Cat N to be fair.

I had a few Stolen/Recovered cars years ago when I worked for an insurance company and none of them had any panel damage!

The worst had been stripped of it's leather interior and alloy wheels, but I managed to source replacements from a breaker.

It would still need tobe cheaper than a non Cat N car as that information is so widely avaiable nowadays. Back in the 70s/80s when I was buying them it was only traders/insurers/police who had access to the HPI database!
