After watching it first time round I was a little concerned that watching it again might leave me feeling disappointed.

Binge watched this week, all 9 episodes in two evenings and it was every bit as good as I remember it

Launched the careers of Gina McKee, Mark Strong and Daniel Craig - Craig most definitely took the limelight with an incredible performance

Now available as a box set on Brit Box which is itself available as a 7 day free trial so no cost to it

We bought the DVD box set years ago and last year dusted it off to watch again. We also ended up watching the whole series in a week - absolutely superb television. I also thought Peter Vaughan's performance as Felix was both wonderful and heartbreaking.

Even after all these years I cannot think of a better TV drama series. An emotional roller-coaster at times, but so honest and unflinching.

On a similar vein I re-watched the whole Boys from the Blackstuff series. Still brilliant but what surprised, and to an extent saddened me, was how relevant it still is.

I remember it well.

IRC. Didn't an up and coming band from the Manchester area play their latest offering over the final scenes ? . I thought that was cool at the time as it was a relatively new release by them .

Superb series, give it a run through every few years and it still seems relevant.

Last time I watched it I was struck by the scene where Christopher Ecclestone wipes Peter Vaughan’s arse...so much to look forward to when you get old.

So many good scenes. So much to say.

Never seen it. May have to give it a go.

Presumably as young actor Craig is not as far up his arse as he is playing Bond?

Watched it again a couple of months ago, still as good as the first time I had watched it all those years ago.
Also not a fan of Craig however he played the part very well.

Just a thread bump...

Our friends in the North is back on Radio 4 every Tuesday.

I've watched the TV series many time (always brilliant) and the radio adaptation does absolutely no harm.

Well worth tuning in yes
