Finally got round to unpacking it and it worked! It booted up! Not bad considering it's been sitting on the shelf for four years.

I keep looking at these, and then remember I barely have time for all of the other projects/hobbies/work in my life, and also remember that whatever the question I think I am answering with a Pi, my iPhone/iPad/laptop or PC invariable already does it, and better.

Still doesn't stop me wanting to buy one though - what are you using it for?

Not for anything yet, and still not sure whether I'll do anything useful with it.

What model is it?

I bought a Pi 3B a few years ago for watching movies in the bedroom, I have quite a nifty remote https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B077MHBS3H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

It struggled with 1080p video until I upped the video memory (in software, not an actual upgrade). It also locks up a fair bit, not sure why. Possibly power management as it only happens when idle. It's running Raspbian.

Since I'm now single and don't have a use for it, I'm looking for ideas as well.

This thread is probably a good place to start for ideas:

Damn right. As a friend I recently talked into setting one up said, "It's transformational".

I've used mine (I have 4) for;

- I have a PiHole. I bought a 2nd one to have redundant PiHoles, but haven't got a Round Tuit.

https://pi-hole.net/

- I am building a PiDP 11.

https://obsolescence.wixsite.com/obsolescence/pidp...

- I bought a 400 out of idle curiousity. I have used it a couple of times to answer queries from other (new) Pi400 users, such as getting Zoom running on it.

https://thepihut.com/products/raspberry-pi-400
https://www.electromaker.io/tutorial/blog/how-to-r...

- Future projects include security cameras and replacement for my Squeezebox audio streamers, since the hardware is getting hard to find now.

Indeed, not getting adverts on the channel 4 Player app alone makes it worth it!

I upgraded my Pi 3 to the Pi 4.
It was only off for about 30 minutes and in that time the internet was almost unusable with all the ads. Even worse for the ROKU TV and the wife's Kindle.
I don't know how you can use the internet without one.

Surely some good movies are still available when single wink

yes

Although it's scary to actually see how much stuff "calls home", even if you think a program isn't running.

I got pihole up and running again. I used to have Speedtest on the dashboard and I have installed in and it runs via ssh but it doesn't show up on the Pihole UI. Anyone have knowledge of what I need to do it did that?

Maybe we should start a new thread entitled, "what's on your pi-hole blacklist"
