Where is the hate?
Discussion
Something else for the professionally offended to be offended about.
I would prefer Basingstoke police to spend their time catching the boyracers who use the ring road as a racetrack daily rather than this non crime.
Edit. I saw let's go Brandon scrawled on the back of a dirty van yesterday. Made me laugh. I expect the sensitive types would like them hunted down and imprisoned.

The "it's okay to be white" message appeared as a 2017 poster campaign in the US. It was organised by users of an internet message board, with the aim of provoking reactions.
It was later picked up and spread by neo-Nazi groups.
I'm sure this isn't anything like that though. It was later picked up and spread by neo-Nazi groups.
Definitely a totally normal thing to do.

Guess you didn't read the more stories like this link at the bottom of the page. The answer is there.
You mean more "racist stickers" incidents?I find it interesting and funny the way things like this annoy certain people so much. "All lives matter" had a similar effect. The hatred is from the people who claim to be offended by it. They are not in fact offended but irritated that their divisive and destructive hobby horse is being made fun of.
The police playing along with this is truly pathetic.
It’s OK to be white.
It’s OK to be black
It’s OK to be gay
It’s OK to be straight .. etc
Can’t get excited or offended by any of those.
Maybe it’s an age thing, but at 58 I’m aware there are far more things in life to worry about.
If people just read the words and didn’t try to find some hidden agenda, the world would be a far more relaxed place.
Obviously, if there is some direct reference/connection to some far right organisation then it needs looking into but at face value it’s a nothing story to me.

Oh wait.

Of course it's OK to be white or any of those things.
But if you read this and understand a little bit about the origins of that particular phrase especially when used as a poster.
It's okay to be white
Does it make you question why someone would go to the effort of printing out posters saying it and sticking them on lamp posts in Basingstoke?
I'd never heard the phrase until this news article and it took me 10 seconds on Google to find out the origins so this isn't a finding offence everywhere thing it's a spending 10 seconds asking "why would someone do that?" thing.

There is no hate. Inevitably though it got linked to white supremacy groups such as the KKK so it's now racist. Those groups are always going to latch on to such a phrase, regardless of it's origin or original intent.
You could come up with any sort of innocuous slogan around being white or straight or male etc and it'll inevitably get linked to a s
tty group of some sort and then be labelled as racist, sexist or homophobic etc.
Remember super straight? Same thing, playing the same game as the alphabet obsessed but that got labelled as homophobic. See what's going on with LGBA right now, no hatred in it but no, apparently it's trans-phobic. All Lives Matter? That's a statement you can't argue with but as it's not BLM it's racist.
Only certain groups are allowed their flags and slogans, know your place and step in line!

If this is so offensive, as despite my best efforts I'm entirely unsurprised by, and is even classed as a hate crime, does that mean the opposite is true?
If it's not ok for me to be white, do I "do a Trudeau" and blacken myself up when in public?
Seems a lot of effort, but in these ever-changing times, one must do one's bit for community cohesion.
It'll certainly stir things up in my 100% white hamlet!

Yeah, you’re right, we should totally allow and accept racists put up posters and have flags and signs in 2021. What I'm saying is that there is a constant hunger to seek and label hatred in everything that isn't in line with a certain narrative.

So you think the people who put these up did so with absolutely no racist motivations at all?
If so, I have a lovely bridge for sale if you’re interested?

Why do you? As a recruiting poster for far right, white supremacist, organisations it seems somewhat lacking; there isn't even a phone number.
Quite honestly when I first saw the news article I thought the same as Ari and whilst it seemed an odd thing to do I didn't get the "hate" and Police angle.I nearly posted a thread myself along similar lines to Ari so it's easily done.
Having spent 10 seconds Googling and a couple of minutes reading the origins of the phrase and its usage as a poster I would imagine either racists or some "I'm not racist I'm just happy to use their phrases because I'm sick of BLM" types.

Thanks!I don't think the offence this causes is anything to do with the precise Internet origins of the phrase. It gets under the skin of the woke because they ultimately don't think it's OK to be white. They believe being white carries a burden of guilt and shame. However, they can't/won't verbalise this because they are mostly too stupid. Most probably don't actually realise that they think this themselves, so they tie it to things like slavery, apartheid or a police killing in the US which the vast majority of white people have no connection with or control over.
The ones that aren't too stupid realise that making such a duff argument would actually undermine their cause. Guilt and shame are best kept ambiguous.
It is also funny. You can imagine it as a positive TV advert with happy white children playing in well kept gardens and smartly dressed men playing golf, while Yasmin Ali Brown seethes at the television.
The sheer innocuous nature of the phrase makes its ability to offend hilarious and the fact that a few scrappy bits of A4 on a lamp post set judgemental tongues wagging across the country means it works well.

And you wonder why normal, everyday, non-racist, live and let live people are getting fed up with this type of "find offence in everything" attitude?
You're as much a part of the problem, stirring things (nothings) up, as the people you claim are trying to push white supremacy.
I'm just waiting for someone to claim that the fact they used white paper is some sort of non-verbal micro-aggression.
