Software to enable remote desktop control
Discussion
My nan recently (ish) lost her lifelong husband and needs to do a few things such as Internet banking etc but despite going through various things numerous times and writing clear instructions she just can't grasp it.
Is there any software I could put on her PC (Windows 10 I believe) that I could also put on mine to enable me to take control of her computer so I can do it for her? Preferably something that she just clicks an icon on her desktop, gives her a number/code that I put in my end so I can take control.
Something nice and simple to set up ideally because I'm not that tech savvy either!
Thanks very much in advance.

There are loads of options out there, TeamViewer is good. If you have Chrome browser installed on both computers then Chrome Remote Desktop is easy to use: https://remotedesktop.google.com
+1 for Chrome Remote Desktop. She doesn't even need to be a chrome user - once it's set up it stays working and requires her to do nothing on her end to set up a connection apart from to trust you. But I'm sure she does already.

So with that the pc just needs to be switched on, I assume? https://remotedesktop.google.com

That looks pretty good; I'd never even heard of it! I assume since it's web based, it's platform agnostic? I run Linux, my Mum's on W10.https://remotedesktop.google.com

Sadly, Chrome Remote Desktop requires the user who is being connected to to generate a one-time access code, just like Teamviewer. I'm not sure my Mother is capable of that; she struggles with TeamViewer - I have to talk her through doing it every time.
I'm fairly sure I could teach her to at least get me the code. Maybe! If I could create a shortcut icon on the desktop or something. I'm seeing her in 2 weeks so will give it a bash then. Thanks everyone!Zumbruk said:
I use Teamviewer on my Mum's PC, but it needs her to start the client and tell me the logon code. TBH, I'd rather something a bit more automatic than that.
You can set it up for 'unattended' access, so as long as the distant PC is switched on, you can access it from afar. It's a feature on the free home use version and I've used it recently.Zumbruk said:

It requires being set up with a passcode once. Once it's set up, you can connect to it as long as the passcode isn't changed on the remote end. It's so simple to set up that you can talk an idiot through it on the phone. That's if you click on get assistance. But you can set it up so that's it's always ready to connect - there doesn't even need to be someone at the other end to click accept or okay once it's set up. You do this via the remote access button rather than the remote support button. Apparently you can now set it up remotely with SSH, which is new!I've used TeamViewer in the past but it's horribly clunky in comparison to Google remote desktop.

Not an answer to the question, but how about visiting your gran on a regular basis; if you can.
She has to be lonely after losing someone so close.
I visit her almost every every weekend. I saw her this weekend but next weekend I won't see her because she'll be at my Aunt's. She's a 45min drive away and I have a full time job too. She is very appreciative of me visiting every week. I used to go 2x per week but with work picking up again it's more tricky. Thanks for your concern but I'm not as bad as it may seem. She has to be lonely after losing someone so close.
