A couple of videos which show very clearly, the exhaust sound differences between the V12 Vantage and V8 Vantage.

Very different sounds, to me the 12 has a smoother sound, the 8 being more hard edged.

Both V8 and V12 models have various exhaust configs/types, and that’s just AM options.

A V8 4.7 has a different box to the V8S and they sound different already (the non-S a bit more US muscle car burble?). Both lovely.

I confirmed over the weekend that the Performance Pack V12S is louder than a non-PP example.

Then you have the secondary cat and de-cat. Or GT12 titanium exhaust, etc.

My 4.7 Vantage is model year 2009, so therefore only has a single pair of cats.
They have been 'adjusted' so each are now 400 cell, instead of the OEM 1,300 cell.
The exhaust sound has exactly the same Aston Martin characteristics, but is louder during acceleration and at cold tickover.
When changing up a gear at higher revs, there are just a couple of discrete pops.
I am not sure why cold tickover, is louder than warm tickover. Probably the engine revs are higher. I must remember to look.

I have found trying to record these sounds is not at all easy. Even an outside microphone with a 'sock', is prone to wind noise, so a mic in the boot is the best that I have achieved. Any ideas? Wonder if a rear panel mounted mic, set inside foam would be any better?
