I have a used iPhone I want to sell (not touting to sell here!!) and have always used ebay in the past. I'm a 20 year member there with 100's of feedback and 100% positive but have noticed, ebay has turned to sh*t in the last few years and is full of scammers and timewasters when selling anything higher priced.
I tried to sell it twice there, have loads of good pictures and full description and I get lots of bids and it sells but within 5 mins of the auction end, the buyer wants to cancel for no reason so that week of being listed is lost and I have to start again. No contact from the actual buyer at all - just the generic ebay message 'you buyer is requsting a cancellation'.

So I try on Facebook marketplace as a collect only item or delivery to UK only and its even worse there. Within a few hours, I have 20+ messages asking if its available with everyone being from India or Pakistan so I just ignore the messages and pull the sale.

Is there anywhere else I can sell the phone that offers close to the market value? I know Mazuma mobile do but they are offering about £200 less than the sales I've seen on Ebay?

Used CEX in the past, like Mazuma you won’t get top dollar but their offers were much higher. Good for a quick, no hassle sale

Try CEX, probably won't get as much as ebay but it's less hassle as they check the phone works and isn't barred then you get paid.

I've pretty much stopped selling items on ebay via auction, because of this. I now only sell items as a classified ad, with a fixed price, and offers invited. Yes, you will still get stupid offers with this approach, but you are able to weed out the chancers, and pretty much control who you want to sell it to and control your price this way.

eBay has indeed gone to the dogs and without Paypal it has (for me) made it harder to deal with issues. I still sell on there but my description and terms are strict the same as any business contracts I write. Electronics is difficult to sell because of the target demographic - youth who mainly want but cannot afford to have hehe

I use the following, " Electronic goods are welcomed to be tested and inspected at our address before sale. However there are no returns for this item and therefore no responsibility can be accepted for any faults that may develop after the product has left this address". The bad news is that you have footfall to your house but most things can be tested in the hallway. Good luck (y)

Have you also factored in eBay/PayPal fees.

This same as anything sell private, you'll get more money if all goes well, but have to deal with scammers and time wasters ( and phones attracts them more than anything else. )

Sell to a company, who need to make money selling it on, but you get the cash without dealing with all the idiots.

Google something like "sell phone comparison" should give you several places to get the best no hassle price.

Yeah, I was thinking of just doing a BIN listing without the hassle of bids.

Gumtree, local pick-up, cash on collection. Sold a few phones that way.

I only sell higher priced items when i get the 'Sell for £1' or '80% off fees' that ebay give out almost monthly or more.
Oddly, its only when I use these is when things always go wrong?

Just did the "sell phone comparison" you suggested and it worked out well smile
MusicMagpie offered me £600 plus the Google search gave me an additional 10% so £630 and happy with that.
The other big sites were only offering £500.

If it's 10% on £600 then it is £660 smile

Just be careful with them as I've heard a few stories about them offering X then when you send it in there's an issue with it and their valuation is now Y - I know someone who sent off an immaculate iPad Pro to buy the latest one and they said it was bent, asked for it to be returned and it was in the same condition as he sent it to them. Take plenty of photos of it.

AVForums as mentioned above is a great place to buy and sell, however as a new member with an expensive item you'll more than likely be asked to send it first (to established members with high feedback score only!) then they'll pay you upon delivery/inspection (it works well but many people won't entertain doing that, understandably)
