Late model DB9 door handle lights

I have a 2006 DB9 Volante and I'm slowly improving/updating it.

Currently working on installing LEDs in the door handles. Can someone with a later model tell me how long the lights stay on for, I understand they come on when the doors are unlocked, do they stay on with the interior lights or do they just come on for a few seconds when unlocking.

Outside, there are two small windows in the exterior door handle.

I have already fitted LEDs in the interior door handles and they are illuminated with either/or interior lights/dash lighting

Ah right. I'm pretty new to Astons but my 2007 DB9 coupe has them. Were they introduced for 2007 or have I got an upgrade I didn't know about?

They were introduced for MY 2007, mine us a 2006.

Do you know when and for how long they illuminate?

On my Vantage they come on as soon as I unlock the car with the remote. Then, they stay on for I think around 30 seconds, they go off before the interior lights. I think they go off immediately as soon as you open the door. Not sure if the passenger door goes off if you just open the driver door (and vice versa) though.

Just done a quick test...

Interior and door handle lights come on when you unlock. Interior lights fade off after c.30 secs, but door handle lights are still on for at least a minute (after which point I got bored and came back in). They go off when you lock it.


ETA some sort of light in the window switch/internal door handle area would be handy as they're hard to locate by feel when dark. Can the window switches be swapped for illuminated ones?

I've done the interior door handle lights and i'll post instructions/photos later. The window switches are illuminated in my car so would have thought they should be in yours

Interesting, thanks. They look like Jaguar parts to me; my XK was 2006 and the switches were unlit but I was able to swap them for later ones which had green lit edges. The crazy angle doesn't help when trying to use them in the dark.

One quirk of the DB9 I've found is that the dashboard lighting doesn't dim when you switch the headlights on, you have to do it manually. No auto-lights, auto-wipers or auto-dimming rear view mirror either - odd when you think my 2001 S-Type had them all.
