The cost of tackling global warming includes not getting the benefits we've become accustomed to.
If residents of Pacific Islands face hardship from Western development, can we harden our heart to a handful of UK residents having slightly worse traffic than they otherwise might?

Bypasses potentially allow cars to achieve their most efficient cruising speed while travelling, while heavy congestion through a village will increase emissions and pollution. The cost of tackling global warming includes not getting the benefits we've become accustomed to.

Also - the congestion and subsequent pollution/air quality handily plays into the hands of the anti personal transport lobby. It's a win-win for them.
And it's now a CLIMATE EMERGENCY! And for the Guardian the usual terms aren't good enough; it's GLOBAL ***HEATING***
