Looking at a recently fully restored car of original 1953 vintage. MOT check declares the car as first registered June 2019. The car retains its old registration plate index. Anything to be concerned about here ? Thank you as always.

Has it been exported and then re-imported?

My first car was a 1977 Mini 1000 which went to Italy and came back to the UK in '83 and had a 'Y' reg attached to it.

The car is an Austin A30 advert in Ebay at £10,750, I’m unable to post the ad’ in here. It does mention the car has a Heritage Certificate? but nothing about its previous life other than found in a ‘bit of a state’. I will ask the owner for its previous known history.

Must be this one - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185141543803?hash=item2...

If it was off the road for a long time before being restored it may not have been put on the DVLA when they went computerised in the late '70s, so they've recorded it as being registered much later.

As above, it may have been recorded as the first date it went on DVLA computer.

Check if it's tax and MOT exempt, if DVLA think it's 2019 it probably isn't.

Can't say I'm a fan of the A30 but that looks bloody lovely.

Yes it is the car in the above link, thanks for comments and advise. Nothing seems to be sinister in the later registration then it seems.

Looks like a very nice example so if it's not too far away I'd say go and have a shuftie. The colour looks similar to 'Antelope' which was used on early Mk3 Minis wink

DVLA show it as manufactured in 1953; as has already been said, it was probably off the road in the 70s when local registration offices transferred their details to DVLA

The owner has just confirmed to me that it’s on an age related plate as the original was lost. Also it’s MOT & tax free as expected. I’m considering another A30 on ebay atm, at £5650 it’s a 1956 model and half the price, still looks and reads nice finished in a pastel green colour. Waiting for the owner to get back to me with a few general questions I have asked.

Hmmmm.........VG is a Norwich registration......which would be very unusual for a DVLA allocated age related plate, which are invariably from all the surplus unallocated Scottish number plates from in period.

It looks a lovely restoration (as finished) but as others have said, I'd be running a magnet all over it, and as others have said, that choice of interior colour looks bloody horrible. I wonder what colour it says on the hertitage cert that it left the factory in.......red most likely would be my guess for that exterior colour?

Thanks for advisory replies, it’s good to have some feedback that removes some of my rose tinted spec’s. Must admit I am not sure about the interior colour, I used to have a ‘peanut’ decades ago it was finished in a off white colour with cream seats. Well underneath all the grime and muck it was!

Please keep the comments coming, much appreciated.

Bit more digging around has revealed that the interior on my prospective purchase was trimmed in Southern Australia by a business that has been working since 2009. Rather confusingly the owner advised me that the original reg’ plate number had been lost. Something not quite adding up now.

Vehiclesmart says it is a 1953 car and shows it as £0 road tax.

Still mulling it over, I don’t think I have ever spent so much time thinking it over as this car! Seems odd as it’s ‘only’ a starter classic, enjoyed no end of classics and vintage over the years but the ‘peanut’ has really got me thinking it over. Looks a great little car but I understand that it has many drawbacks regards drivability, likely that has me head scratching.
Another ‘peanut’ has popped up at Percival motors, drivability has been addressed by previous owners and it looks smart enough. Time to make a decision.

The peanut at Percival looks a much more 'honest' and 'correct' car IMHO.....based on photo's alone, and as you say a few discreet upgrades as well.

Thanks chaps, yes I am swaying toward the ‘Percival’ car, as you both agree it has some sensible discrete upgrades which make it a attractive little car to use.
I am an Austin 7 club member, several of the guys do own and use ‘Peanuts’ which are accepted into the fraternity. I do love a 7 but the prices are stupid atm for my preferences such as chumminess and fabric saloons.
