Don't know the facts of this case, but in my view cyclists often cycle fast around dogs and don't make the owners aware of their presence, whether by a bell or other means, so that they can get their dog under tight control before there is any risk to the cyclist or dog.

A bit more consideration while travelling fast around others would be a good idea.

If the judge really did make those stereotypes (It's reported in the Mail after all) I think it's a bad reflection on the profession. Surely a judge of all people should be treating people fairly as individuals not because of what group they are from?

Don't know the facts of this case, but in my view many dog walkers don't keep their dogs under control and don't make any effort to keep them under control in shared spaces or paths.

A bit more consideration while walking dogs would be a good idea.

If a judge did , well it gives us hope ,
There is a reason Lycra Louts have a certain reputation!!
If they don’t like it they could use the roads with a slight nod to the Highway Code !!

The vast majority of cyclists also own a car, so it’s fair to say that sense of entitlement is inherent to the individual rather than their particular chosen mode of transport at a given time.

I don’t know the facts of the case, but I have never met a dog I didn’t like or a cyclist that I did.

Drivers are far worse at obeying the law and Highway Code. Do you critics all drivers in the same way?

If, as you say, it is accurate, I hope that judge gets dealt with appropriately. That’s a really poor attitude to make sweeping comments like that.

I imagine it was a lighthearted moment. But the transcript won't of-course reflect that.

Cyclists are people
Dog walkers are people
Car drivers are people

Common denominator? People

People = st

I ride a bike and drive a car. I'm sure I comply with the law more on my bike than I do in the car.

Well it isn't so much the law as awareness of risk to other users of the same space and risk to yourself as well if you have an accident.

I am sure the vast majority of motorists take a great deal of care when passing horses on the roads. This case seems to be about cyclists needing to take the same care when passing dogs in shared space.

When even your cyclist self is snooty towards your car driving self, maybe the judge has a point.

I drive my to my daughters school once a week in the evening to pick he’s up from a club. Last week was the first time this year that I have done it in the dark.

Number of bikes jumping red lights. 6
Number of bikes on foot path, 2
Number of bikes without lights 10 (at which point I stopped counting)

Ok, it is Oxford so quite bike dense, but the numbers for cars of the above was zero.

And how many cars were parked in cycle lanes, on double yellows, stopped in yellow boxes or at ASLs, driving in bus lanes or speeding? Driving in to Oxford for work every week I can guarantee the answer is “lots”.

I know. But my car driving self is just a nutter and something needs to be done.
