This one doesn't quite fit in with the Insulate lot, although I suspect they are related, nor does it fit in the the political debate thread. However, the climate terrorists are now targeting individuals with, what they believe, are unnecessary luxury vehicles - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-wes...

Apparently known as 'Tyred of SUVs', so clever, they won't feel that clever when someone catches them in the act.

This is escalating, and will end in violence. It doesn't matter if you condone it or not, it will happen, especially as it is now 'personal'. It wouldn't surprise me if they want that to happen though, get some martyr's for the cause and maybe that will rally more support (so they hope).

I remember similar happening when I was a kid and the whole 'Chelsea Tractor' thing emerged.

I guess we're back to Audi S8's being fine but a 2 litre Volvo XC90 near the top of their hit list.

Police will do nothing despite the perpetrators owning up.

It doesn't surprise me, I suspect it will become more common for people with expensive cars to be targeted by the climate mob.

TBF SUV’s are, in the vast majority of cases, only purchased for a false perception of safety.

They’re physically large, create more drag and for a given level of performance consume a huge amount of energy.

Honestly it is a big middle finger by industry to any concerns of excessive consumption.

I can’t believe 99.9% of SUV mileage justifies a car with high ground clearance.

Sabotaging someone’s car though is extremely dangerous and could end up with someone getting killed. This person needs arresting and jailing ASAP.

They have a point to an extent but their stats include the US market where SUVs are the size of small city states and have large engines. Meanwhile in the U.K. a lot of newer SUVs are PHEV almost certainly putting them into the same band as a regular car in terms of pollution. I wouldn’t be overly impressed if they did that to my car but I carry a pump so I’d have a grumble at their stupidity and be on my way. On the dick head scale they’re definitely below Insulate Britain but still annoying and misguided.

But these vehicles are legal to buy, own and use. So there is absolutely no excuse for anyone to berate someone for owning it. It is no one else's business why someone has the vehicle they have - until the law changes.

It'd be like someone smashing someone's windows of their 5 bed detached house because it consumes too much energy. Why not have a 3 bed house and share bedrooms?

Everyone’s reason is different. My Da buys them because my Ma likes the high up seat and the better view it gives in her opinion. She can’t drive but he knows what’s good for him. They’re retired pensioners and the daily drive to some scenic part of Ireland with a few sandwiches and flask of tea is one of their pleasures in life.

I’m not even remotely worried by this story but am chuckling at how fked any scrote caught messing with my father’s car would be.

Well a 5 bed house can consume vastly less energy than a 3 bed.

The simple act of ownership of an SUV is to make the statement of I’m consuming more than I need to.

Is it anyone else’s business? Well yes, we live in a democracy and peoples actions have political consequences so to try and bury your head in the sand and say mind your own business will result in more direct action. Especially when daily news reports are reporting a climate crisis.

What about supercars? Sports cars? Hot hatches? Warm hatches? Large saloon or estate cars?

I'm not a big fan of SUV's, but most are just slightly raised hatchbacks.

Yes but as I said earlier for a given unit of performance an SUV consumes more. That’s really basic physics and to kid oneself to obfuscate it.

A 5 bedroom house requires a lot more to build. Just like a large SUV requires more material for its construction than a smaller vehicle.

My SUV consumes 50% less fuel than the coupe it replaced.

The simple act of posting rubbish like that is indicative that the education system has failed you.

That is a far bigger issue than anything "climate" related.

trying to argue against the climate lot with logic is and always has been a lost cause... I look forward to hearing that they have let the tyres down on a Tesla SUV... it will only be a matter of time...

If you start going down that road then let's look at another angle. Let's say that the guy with the Tesla has been on 4 long haul holidays/flights this year, yet the other guy with the V8 Range Rover hasn't been anywhere and has only covered 1000 miles?

See where this is going?

Does it now.

Let's see your workings out please and which factors you are using.

(Have you ever posted about cars on PH? Seems a curious place to come for people who don't).

Can you see the irony in that statement?

Seems like they were taken in by faux-SUV Styling too.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Our intention was to target SUVs only. If Ms Conn’s car was targeted by our group, we apologise.

“The mistake may have been due to the fact that more and more non-SUVs are being designed to look like SUVs — apparently, climate destruction is fashionable".
