America seems to be worried about this but I do wonder what military steps they would take if there was any incursion.

More clashes near Dokuchaevsk this morning. 13 ceasefire violations yesterday. Certainly one to watch closely at the moment. Can't imagine the US will do anything.

There is nothing the US/NATO can do militarily without widening the conflict.

I mention NATO because Ukraine aspires to membership, the US is an ally of Ukraine, the US is part of NATO.

Didn’t the USA sign a treaty to protect Ukraine from Russian aggression back in the 90’s as part of the Nuclear armament reduction talks in exchange for Ukraine giving up its nuclear Arsenal ?

I think that treaty has already failed, sure it was only a memo anyway.

Not quite as simple or as obligating as that. Note the UK was also a signatory, not just the US.

Wikipedia said:
According to the memorandum, Russia, the US and the UK confirmed their recognition of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine becoming parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and effectively abandoning their nuclear arsenal to Russia and that they would:
  • Respect Belarusian, Kazakh and Ukrainian independence and sovereignty in the existing borders.
  • Refrain from the threat or the use of force against Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
  • Refrain from using economic pressure on Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine to influence their politics.
  • Seek immediate Security Council action to provide assistance to Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine if they "should become a victim of an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used".
  • Refrain from the use of nuclear arms against Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
  • Consult with one another if questions arise regarding those commitments.

Russia has broken the first three, nothing has been done about it.
