As per the title, we're thinking about a caravan and with prices/availability wondering if getting something tired and tidying it up is an option.

We only really want it for the bed for us and a loo for a wee in the morning. Kids can sleep in pup tents or an awning.

Anyone done similar? Any pitfalls or tips?

Am I going to spend a load of time and money on something that's basically just scrap when the bubble bursts?? biggrin

I've seen some quite online modernised older vans that fetch decent money privately.
Just try and get something that's not too damp to start with and preferably new enough to have truma heating not carver as that is obsolete and ypu can't get part.
Do not mess around with a newer van that has a decent bit of value as you will remove value not add it

That sounds more positive than I expected. scratchchinbiggrin

I'm assuming anything up top can be sorted but the chassis is key, or are they all much of a muchness underneath?

Chassis tend to be alko and galvanised so not so bad.
It's all about the damp in the body, that's what will write off a van.
A very very through check with a decent meter is essential, every van will hide its damp in different places and they can harbour thousands worth without any or minimal physical signs ao owners don't realise.
All older tourers will have a bit bit ypu don't want a rotten one.
We have a tourer and a motorhpne these days, tourer has had its fair share of damp work, tbh we have just resealed and will just send it to a seasonal in Spain one day to live out its years in the dry!
