New job now means a 130 mile round trip mostly M6 2-3 times a week with client visits on the other days pretty much nationwide.

Recently leased a Kuga pre new job so thats going have to go to the wife unless I can get a reasonable amount of annual miles added on, currently 12k at £277 pm.

Going to need a decent and reliable motorway cruiser, automatic, cruise control etc.

My thinking is to go for an approved used main dealer car something like a
3,4 or 5 series
C or E class
Passat
Octavia

Looking at spending no more than £15k

Anything that I'm overlooking in terms of model that you would highly recommend.

Comfortable seats, a decent sound system, radar cruise and decent headlights would be requirements for me...

Lexus IS300H would fit the bill, if you buy one under 100k and 10 years old (which your budget will easily allow) you can get it serviced at Lexus and get the full manufacturers warranty.

Can you buy a "prestige" badge approved used main dealer car for £15K?

I was looking for a BMW or Mercedes a few weeks ago. Cheapest approved medium-sized used in my area was well over £20k. E class and 5 series, closer to £30k.

I the end, I bought a 2012 C class coupe privately for £6k. My annual mileage will be less than 4k though, as I have another car for local journeys.

I spent 20 years "on the road", covering 40k miles a year, in a mix of mostly Fords and Vauxhalls. Perfect for the job. They all had more than 100k on the clock when they went back, never had any real problems.

I had a BMW E90 330d(did over 150k miles in it) and a BMW F13 640d(did 70k miles in it) that were both good motorway cruisers. Currently have a Mercedes GLC350d(done 94k miles in it from new) and that is really good at it as well.

All three of them did/do around 40mpg(all were/are 6 cylinder 3.0 diesels). Obviously if you go for the 4 cylinder 2.0 diesel equivalent models...they will be even more frugal.

BMW 320d Sport - better to pay a bit more for a 2016 model as it'll have the more reliable B47 engine than the crappy N47 one

If you want a motorway cruiser that'll eat up the miles these would be my picks.

Infiniti Q70 Sport loads of spec (BiXenons heated/air cooled seats & the list goes on) reliable drivetrain (same drivetrain as the E220) & because of the badge you get a low mileage car for not a lot of outlay:

Q50 Sport as above but C Class sized with slightly less kit:

Insignia SRI Nav the new Insignia is a very good buy, you get a reliable nicely spec'd car that'll eat up the miles, the hard part if finding an auto.

Octavia's are good on the motorway (I've had 4 of them) but some people complain they have excessive road noise, at least compared to other options.

E Class with the smallest wheels and no AMG trim tat would be my choice.

I ended up getting a 2015 A6 Ultra for the same reason. Averages about 50mpg and £30VED. Really really boring to drive, but seems to be made exactly for setting the cruise control and off you go.
