I'm still getting used to me V8V, but on the odd occasion I've managed to "press on", I've noticed the back end feels like it's moving around a bit. It never feels like it's going to break loose, but it feels a little bit like an old live-axle rear end, with the body moving around, even though the wheels are still planted.

The rear wheels look like they have a load of negative camber, but that could just be down to the angles of the rear arches accentuating the camber

It also feels like the nearside rear damper is a bit soft when coming off traffic calming ramps, but I guess that could still be a geometry setting.

Any thoughts? (apart from "get it checked", which I intend to do..)

I’d get it checked and atleast find out what the current score is so that you have a reference point. We have two v8’s in our family both on stock geo and I wouldn’t say either have much camber to the rear, so it could have been messed about with.

Mine is fairly neutral and not tail happy particularly

Agree you want to get it checked out including what tyres are on it and how old are they? As many of these cars are low mileage they can easily end up with 10 year old Bridgestones on which won't be doing it any favours whatsoever.

Absolutely. The previous owner of mine put Falkens on mine. Not sure why, they’re actually not bad tyres but my god they’re noisy.

Going to throw on a set of PS4S’s soon and then do the geo!

I guess the starting point is to find out what shocks you are running and if they are stock Dynamics then as I found out on my low mileage 2009 car, both rears were leaking, not a lot but enough to feel unsettled. The next thing is (as has been pointed out above) are you running on the OEM spec Bridgestone tyres?

These are not only very heavy tyres but also have very little flex in them, the older they are, the worse the forgiveness as the rubber just hardens over time.

Having done a lot of research into shocks very recently, if running stock shocks even when they aren't leaking, they can tend to hit their bump stops very early.

Obviously, the geometry could also be off if you are showing a lot of rear camber.

I've heard Mike from Bamford Rose talk about a slightly 'floaty' rear end in one of his YouTube videos, for the life of me I don't recall which one. I think the effect was associated with the dynamics dampers, although not certain. In some circumstances, I too notice something fitting that description but I haven't had a geo check yet and it is on old Bridgestones.

Shocks are standard and presumably original. No sign of any leaking and they are absolutely fine when driving at anything under about 7/10.

It’s only when hoofing around that the rear feels a bit under-damped.

Tyres are brand-new PS4S running 36psi all round
