Hi all,
I have a '98 320 motorhome - hasn't been doing much this year so I go out every now and again and start it up. Haven't done it for a while and when I tried to start it, all I got was a rapid clicking. Once upon a time I would have got a hammer and clouted the starter motor with it, but all my cars back then were petrol. This is a diesel. So, couple of queries smile
Is it the starter motor that is the issue?
Will a clout with a hammer fix the problem?

Thank you in advance biggrin

Thanks guys. I appreciate it very much. I have a set of jump leads so I'll pop them on and take it for a wee drive

A wee drive of over an hour will be needed to charge a flat battery & it may be goosed anyway as it has been left to flatten itself.

Think it was probably more the case of me just starting it up a few times a week without actually going anywhere. It's getting moved soon.. I'll probably disconnect the battery after charging it

It doesn't matter how it gets flat, if a battery gets proper flat they rarely recover again.
