The clutch on my 1994 K-series Supersport needs replacement. What cost could I be looking at? Any recommendations on who to use? I’m based near Gatwick Airport

You’re spoilt for choice - James Whiting, Andy Belcher at Tech7, Partridge Green Motorsport and a little further Boss Racing.

Helix is the current kit of choice and ensure you get the thrust bearing changed. No idea on price as I do my own mechanics.

If your gearbox prop shaft oil rejector / seal is leaking or weeping , it would be very easy and virtually no cost to have it changed at the same time as clutch replacement.
The seal costs about £10 and 5 minutes to change with the box out.
I suggest you look under the car and wipe the seal with kitchen towel to see if it's passing any oil before the work is started.

N.B. If you replace the rear crank seal on a ‘K’ series, make sure that you get a decent quality seal. There are a lot of cheap seals on the market, a £10 seal is likely to be a cheap chinese one which will rapidly harden and leak, OTOH a Corteco seal or INA seal is likely to be extremely reliable. If the seal you are buying has a gold coloured surround, then reject it, it *will* leak. The sheer aggravation of having to replace the seal makes it a false economy to save a few quid on seal that may leak.

In order to ensure the seal stays in place it needs to be cemented in using a thin layer of silicone sealant on the flat flange of the seal, the flange on the block should be chemically cleaned and any residual sealant removed. Make sure the seal is square in it’s nacelle and if possible clam it in position for a couple of hours until the sealant has cured.

Bear in mind that once the flywheel is removed, oil will track down the bolt holes, this is perfectly normal and it may appear that the seal has been leaking even though it is intact.

Thanks all for your help and advice, i really appreciate it. The car is booked in next month for the clutch etc to be replaced. I got 4 different estimates from Caterham specialists all around the £1100 mark.
